The history of the location of ‘Comedy Mothership’
In the #1998 episode of JRE, Rogan, and stand-up comic Ali Siddiq discussed Rogan’s club’s location, which is situated on 6th Street in the historic Ritz building in Austin. The podcaster said, “It’s normal for me now. I know it sounds f*cked up, but I’m just being honest. So the building that I bought was owned by a cult. I didn’t knew the extend of it until I was already in the deal to sign the contract. My friend Adam called me up, he was like ‘Hey man, you have watched documentary on this cult?’ I told no, he goes, ‘Oh it’s bad. You should have watched it. He was it was just f*cking crazy.’ It’s called Holly Hell yeah.“
Rogan further provided more details about the previous owner of the building. He said, “It’s about this dude’s name is Jamie Gomez and he was a gay porn star and a hypnotist and he started a club… he was teaching people yoga and he got a bunch of young disciples. They believe that he was a guru and he was god energy.” Siddiq was spellbound after listening to the history of the location. He never expected things to be this complicated when Rogan began to talk about the place.
