“The Bills Ain’t Gonna Pay Themselves”- Derrick Lewis Exposed Dana White’s Biggest Drawback in a Confession to Megan Olivi

Most UFC fans may know that the promotion is no stranger to controversies. Right from its initial days when the show was dubbed ‘Human Cockfighting,’ to the modern era under Dana White, there are multiple issues that the UFC has been in trouble with. Well, one such infamous issue that has earned it a lot of hate is the fighter’s payout. More shockingly, even long-time UFC fighters have often talked about their meager payouts and the troubles related to them.

Several UFC fans may remember how the noted UFC middleweight, Jared Cannonier, started off his UFC Vegas 34 interview with “I’m broke”. But that is far from being the only incident where fighters have talked about their financial instability even after fighting under the UFC for a long span of time. A recent reel on Instagram showcased an old yet similar incident. In it, the famed UFC heavyweight, Derrick Lewis, indicated that he also shared Cannonier’s problem somewhere.

Derrick Lewis got more specific about his issues than Jared Cannonier

It was in one of his post-fight backstage interviews where ‘The Black Beast’ made this revelation. Most UFC fans may agree that Lewis is a pretty well-known face in the promotion. Also, looking at the exciting fights that he generally produces, they may have thought that the UFC pays him enough to lead an elegant lifestyle. But, the reality is pretty much the opposite of what they thought.

The Instagram reel showcased the well-known UFC interviewer, Megan Olivi, catching up with Lewis after one of his fights. She posed a question about Lewis’ next fight, asking, “Would you like to fight soon or is it just the situation where you would like to take some time off?”. However, the answer from the ’38-year-old’ may have startled several fans.

With full honesty, Lewis replied, “Yeah, I gotta fight. I would like to fight sometime soon. Because I got a big a** house and the bills ain’t gonna pay themselves. So, as soon as possible, that’s great”.

While Cannonier suppressed the exact reason for his requirement for money and just said, “I’m broke,” Lewis had no intent of holding anything back. Well, the fans have always taken the side of the fighters on such issues. But, the UFC CEO Dana White has a bigger threat to worry about regarding their meager fighter payouts.

Jake Paul – The biggest threat to the UFC related to fighter payouts

Most UFC and boxing fans may be aware of the beef between the UFC CEO, Dana White, and the noted YouTuber-boxer, Jake Paul. Paul has taken multiple jibes at White and the UFC about the fact that a large section of their fighters remains critically underpaid despite fighting for the world’s premiere MMA promotion.

Paul has called out multiple retired UFC stars to the boxing ring, including Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silva, and had matches with them. However, the retired UFC fighters who boxed Paul weren’t in need of assistance from any organization to manage their side of the fight. As a result, they earned the largest payday in the history of their combat sports careers. This might be a major worry for Dana White and the UFC.
