One of the reasons why Russian athletes have gained worldwide fame in the sporting community is because of the unmatched level of wrestling. We can see that in the UFC, and Khamzat Chimaev is a pretty good example of that notion. Although he’s an Emirati by nationality, ‘Borz’s roots in the Chechen Republic have always helped him stand out as one of the best MMA wrestlers out there. Moreover, Chimaev’s training never stops and recently he was seen training with the Russian national wrestling team, and fans went wild seeing it.

Although it’s the off-season for Khamzat Chimaev, who recently ‘squeezed’ his way to a win against Robert Whittaker at UFC 308, he’s still working on his craft and hitting the mats in the gym. In his quest to keep learning and evolving in his game, the 31-year-old caught up with the Russian national wrestling team. Interestingly, in the few seconds of the montage we saw during Chimaev’s training, it appeared that the UFC middleweight star got the better of the top-level wrestlers.

However, this isn’t the first time Khamzat Chimaev has butted heads with a Russian wrestler. Weeks before his UFC 308 return, ‘Borz’ also met up with the 2024 Paris Olympics 74kg freestyle wrestling gold medalist, Razambek Zhamalov. Chimaev’s performance in his last bout certainly showed how beneficial training with these athletes has proven to be.

As expected, fans were hyped to see Khamzat Chimaev turn up the notch with some high-level wrestlers. Moreover, watching this clip led some fans to make a claim about Russin MMA fighters and predict a pretty rough outing for other contenders against ‘Borz’. Let’s see what the UFC fandom had to say.

Khamzat Chimaev is “already a beast,” fans claim

Witnessing how the Chechnyan-born UFC star trains relentlessly to better his wrestling, one claimed that Khamzat Chimaev is a prime reason why Russian athletes are dominating the world of mixed martial arts, especially in the UFC. “We have the best wrestling in the world and thats why we dominate in MMA.” Sure, wrestling is a very important skill, even for strikers, to compete on an elite level in MMA, but some fans believe Chimaev doesn’t need more than he already has in his arsenal.

As one fan stated, “As if he needs to get any better, bro is already a beast,” a couple of other fans claimed that these training sessions with the national wrestling team would only bore good results in his upcoming fights. They added, “Even as good as khamzat is its crazy to watch those national team wrestlers. The technique difference is insane they are near perfect,” and, “You can imagine how insanely good this camp will be for Khamzat, with his current skillset in wrestling. Who will be able to stop this man in the UFC after this camp.” However, a user on X claimed that he had a different initial impression of ‘Borz’.

There were rumblings about Khamzat Chimaev being ‘overrated’, especially due to long layoffs in the past couple of years. But the fans are convinced that there’s hardly anybody who can give the Chechnyan-born a run for his money. “Cant lie thought Khamzat was overrated when he got into the ufc. Still dont like him fighting once a year but i cant see anyone dealing with his wrestling.”

With the relentless carried on by Khamzat Chimaev, one fan commented, “No one in MW could stop him,” claiming that he’ll spell all kinds of trouble against the 185’ers. However, some fans pointed out the holes in ‘Borz’s game, which is his stamina to go five rounds with the same level of intensity. “He needs to work on his gas tank though,” a fan added in that regard.
