Belal Muhammad might have felt disappointed after learning that his 4-fight winning streak wasn’t enough for the UFC president Dana White to give him a title shot. Nonetheless, ‘Remember The Name’ hasn’t stopped aiming to get to the top. He has laid down the names of a few opponents whom he thinks are the logical choice for a fight.

Muhammad is riding high on momentum since debuting in the UFC. He has lost only three fights in his stint with the promotion and managed to win 13 bouts. Muhammad recently appeared in an exclusive interview with ‘MMA Figting’ and mentioned the fighters whom he is willing to face.

When the UFC announced it was working on a fight between rising star Shavkat Rakhmonov and Belal Muhammad, the latter had no idea. ‘Remember The Name’ mentioned that he was watching the UFC 286 post-fighter press conference and was excited to hear what Dana White had to say about the next title contender. But the UFC president surprised him with the Colby Covington decision.

Muhammad said, “I hope somebody asks him [Dana White] what’s going on and who’s next,’ and I was hoping he would say, ‘We don’t make fights after the title fight.” He added, “But then he came out and said Colby [Covington] was for sure [next]. You’re sitting there and, ‘We’re trying to make Shavkat [versus Belal].’ I was like, what? Where did this come from?”

Belal Muhammad also mentioned that he had no idea what was happening and then decided to call his manager. But he recently met up with White and it seems that nothing has been finalized yet.

‘Remember the Name’ wants to fight these three fighters

Belal Muhammad is certainly aiming for a title shot. He mentions that the only way for him is upwards. “For me, now, I’m only looking upwards,” said Muhammad. He mentioned that he will consider fighting champions or former champions like Kamaru Usman, Colby Covington, and Leon Edwards.

Muhammad said, “If that’s the name that is going to get me a [title] shot — if it’s going to be somebody, it’s going to be either Usman, Colby, or Leon. It’s only fighting upwards from here. I think that’s the only way I’m going to be guaranteed anything.”

Most UFC champions compete only twice a year and Muhammad is aware of that. Considering that, he knows that he won’t be able to get his hands on the champion until the latter half of 2023. This is why Muhammad thinks facing Colby Covington makes perfect sense.
