Michael Chandler landed a title shot with just three UFC fights in his resume. However, the ‘Iron’ lost his first-ever UFC lightweight title shot against Charles Oliveira at UFC 262.
Despite such a big loss in his UFC career, the promotion gave Chandler the opportunity to be a part of the analyst team at a UFC event. Many people believed that UFC president Dana White has favored Chandler.
However, the ‘Iron’ explained the scenario in a recent episode of MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. Chandler said, “That was something too that I had to reach out. Because obviously, you lose the title fight and people weren’t going to reach out to me. So I would actually reach out to people and say, hey. This is all selfish too, like I know I need to get back on the horse. And I actually reached out to the UFC Zack Candido.”

He added, “I’m, of course, I took an L and I’m licking my wounds. But I still have my work boots on if you want. So that’s what people don’t understand too. That’s the beauty of this Dana White privilege thing is that people say man well he everything was handed to him. When really I’m asking for it and I’m working for it and I show up with my work boots on.”
“And I put my best foot forward, and he who doesn’t ask will never get. So I just ask and I worked, and that was part of it. And obviously, I’m gonna put the back burner until at least November 6th. And then I am gonna be on the broadcast here in the near future by the end of the year”

However, ‘The Iron’ lost the fight in the second round of the fight. It was a big defeat for the former Bellator champion. Chandler hasn’t entered the octagon since his defeat at UFC 262.
However, ‘The Iron’ will now face the former UFC interim lightweight champion, Justin Gaethje, at UFC 268. The latter is currently #2 in the lightweight roster. Hence, a win over Gaethje will surely cement Chandler’s position in the division.
