Over the past few days, the UFC community had been buzzing about Max Holloway’s replacement for the title fight against Alexander Volkanovski. Surprisingly, leading the charge of the bandwagon was former UFC double champion Henry Cejudo. However, UFC President Dana White was quick to subdue him as he selected ‘The Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung.

Now, Dana White has clarified why he didn’t consider ‘The Messenger’ as a viable replacement for the featherweight title bout. Speaking to Adam Catterall of BT Sports, White reflected on the same.

“I could tell you that The Korean Zombie’s been here fighting. This guy’s retired; he’s been off for how many years now? He wants to come in and fight Alexander Volkanovski? You know, you’ve got guys like the Zombie, Josh Emmett. Giga, who’s fighting this weekend.”

“You know, you’ve got these guys that are in here doing it three times a year and working their way up. For Cejudo to retire and then just think he should just be able to come in and jump into any weight division and take on the champion – that’s not how it works.”

However, this analogy of Dana White hasn’t sat well within a certain portion of MMA fans. Many in the fraternity believe that the UFC President is discriminating against Cejudo, with ‘Triple C’ saying the same.

Bellator commentator chimes in on the Dana White and Henry Cejudo controversy

The Dana White and ‘Triple C’ controversy took a heated turn when Cejudo blamed the UFC President for discrimination and referred to GSP’s return for the middleweight title fight in 2017.

Since then, Cejudo has garnered support for himself, as many in the MMA fraternity believe that ‘The Messenger’ has a stake in the featherweight title fight. One of them was Bellator color commentator, John McCarthy.

McCarthy tweeted, “So @HenryCejudo has not fought in 617 days. @GeorgesStPierre had not fought for 1450 days and was given Middleweight Title fight with @bisping after being gone for more than twice the time. Does @danawhite really expect people to believe that Henry just can’t jump the line??”

Later, he got a nod of appreciation from the former dual champion himself. “Come on @danawhite does the truth hurt!”
