Jorge Masvidal has taken over the world of Ultimate Fighting Championship, as his fight against Gilbert Burns for the co-main event at UFC 287 inches closer. However, in his recent appearance in an interview with MMA Junkie, ‘Gamebred’ revealed some insider information. He revealed that he would be fighting the welterweight champion, Leon Edwards, after his fight against ‘Durinho’.
Although the UFC president, Dana White, previously announced that Colby Covington, would be the next fighter in line to challenge the welterweight title, Masvidal seemingly refused to accept it. He claimed that he would jump over ‘Chaos’ and get the title shot first. Furthermore, he seemed pretty confident to fight Burns and believed that fighting for the title against Edwards would, in fact, generate more PPVs. Surprisingly, he claimed that the title fight would be an ‘epic’ one.

Masvidal was recently interviewed by ‘MMA Junkie’ wherein he revealed that he would fight ‘Rocky’ soon. Although he seemed quite excited about UFC 287, he simply couldn’t hide his desire to fight Edwards. He said, “I’m eager to get in there with Gilbert and utterly dismantle him to the point that everybody is begging for me to go and fight Leon. I know Leon’s not an idiot. He’s already fought before and defended the title and stuff, and he knows what a guy like me brings to the table besides the added beef that we have and the amount of pay-per-views we can generate together fighting for that title.”
Additionally, ‘Gamebred Fighter’ believed that the title shot would be the ‘perfect movie ending’ for him and everyone associated with him. The host then asked Masvidal if he planned to fight whoever would win in the next welterweight title shot and named Belal Muhammad, Covington, and Edwards.
However, Masvidal stopped Gracie midway and depicted that he won’t fight any winner. He revealed that he would fight Burns and then Edwards. He said, “No. I’m fighting Gilbert, then I’m fighting Leon. I’m telling you that’s how it’s going to play out. I just got some insider information.”
The rivalry between Masvidal and Edwards
Labeled as the BMF in the MMA world, Masvidal was previously pitted against ‘Rocky’ for UFC 269. Unfortunately, he was forced to opt out of the match due to a serious injury. He then landed against Covington and faced defeat for the third time in a row.
