Bantamweight contender Rob Font opened his 2025 account with a decision win, making it two wins in a row. He defeated Jean Matsumoto, who suffered his first UFC loss, via decision. But it seems like many people believe the fight should have gone the Brazilian fighter’s way, which was evident from the reactions of fans and even the UFC pros on social media.
Rob Font, who’s a bit more experienced than Jean Matsumoto, had to scratch and claw to a win against his younger counterpart. Although he landed almost twenty more significant strikes, the 9th-ranked bantamweight saw himself getting taken down a total of seven times out of Matsumoto’s ten attempts. However, the judges saw a different picture as the 25-year-old was busted open by the time the fight ended.
With a bloodied-up Jean Matsumoto, the judges, Derek Cleary and Mike Bell, decided to score in favor of Rob Font, while only Sal D’amato sided with the young Brazilian fighter. In the end, Font was able to secure a split decision victory, as he and Matsumoto put on arguably one of the best fights at UFC Seattle.

While the fans and many people in the MMA community absolutely loved the bantamweight clash, they took issue with the judges, which isn’t a novelty in Dana White’s promotion. So, let us now take a look at that front and see what they had to say about the outcome of Rob Font vs Jean Matsumoto.
Fans and UFC pros take issue with judges’ decision on Rob Font vs Jean Matsumoto
The young Jean Matsumoto garnered the support of his fellow Brazilian UFC fighters, who did not hold back in claiming that the bantamweight fighter got robbed of a win. “That been said! That was a robbery,” Renato Moicano wrote on X. However, he wasn’t the only UFC pro who spoke out about how the fight ended as Gilbert Burns echoed the same sentiment as ‘Money Moicano’ and envisioned great things for Jean Matsumoto in his UFC career. “I think [Jean Matsumoto] won the fight! But still 25 yo Future is bright,” ‘Durinho’ tweeted.
Meanwhile, fans also joined the conversation as they responded to Gilbert Burns’ tweet. While one fan agreed that Jean Matsumoto should have won, it is hard to claim that given how ‘close’ the contest was between the 25-year-old and Rob Font. “I thought he lost but very close. It all came down to the 1st and he didn’t do much with the takedown while Font did damage while on the feet,” the fan stated.

No way Jean lost that one,” one fan added. Another user on X went on to claim that the judges made a “crazy decision.”

Very close fight.” Did the judges miss out on that? Well, we’ll never know.
