Regardless of his recent losing streak, Tony Ferguson is still a revered figure in the MMA community. ‘El Cucuy’ was one of the most destructive forces in the UFC lightweight division during his prime. The former interim lightweight champion’s fights were guaranteed blood baths, and it was very rarely his own blood. However, all that changed at UFC 249 when he fought Justin Gaethje. Ferguson has been a shell of his former self since that beating. Now, another UFC lightweight has stated that it is an insult to be asked to fight Tony Ferguson.

UFC lightweight star Dan Hooker recently sat down with ‘Submission Radio’ for an interview. The City Kickboxing team captain previewed his upcoming fight at UFC 290 and discussed the injury that forced him out of UFC 285. He also revealed the details of fight discussions that happened while he was in recovery. Apparently, there were talks of a Tony Ferguson fight, but Hooker did not take kindly to that.

In his interview with Submission Radio, Dan Hooker revealed that he was infuriated with the Tony Ferguson fight talks. Hooker is looking to climb the ladder in the lightweight rankings after his own poor run of form. He was set to face Jalin Turner at UFC 285 before the injury forced him out.

The prospect of fighting the unranked Ferguson did not impress Hooker. He said, “I broke my hand and then I was getting back into training, easing back into training, and then I think someone fought and my manager asked, ‘What about this guy? Like a top contender, I can’t remember who it was. But I messaged him and was like, ‘What about this guy for the next fight?’”

Hooker continued, “He replied, ‘Oh, we asked for Tony Ferguson.’ I was so f****** offended (laughs). That sparked me. I was like, ‘Nah, f*** this.’” Hooker added that he went against medical advice and sparred the next day because the proposal offended him to such an extent.
