Now, reports are coming out about a supposed dispute regarding one of Zuckerberg’s Jiu-Jitsu matches. According to the latest news, Meta is disputing a claim that Zuckerberg lost a match on the mats after he was choked out. His team is disputing the referee’s claim, offering a different narrative about the turn of events that transpired.

Meta disputes referee’s claim on Mark Zuckerberg Jiu-Jitsu loss

Almost a month ago a New York Times article detailing Mark Zuckerberg’s intense training regimen gave an account of his Jiu-Jitsu loss. The event in dispute went down in California. The article said that the referee had to intervene after Zuckerberg went unconscious.

Apparently, he began to snore, which is a sign that he was out cold. However, Meta is claiming that Zuckerberg never went out cold. Their statement said, “At no point during the competition was Mark knocked unconscious. That never happened.”

They also added that the referee, “apologized to Mark and his coach after the match for prematurely calling the match.”

Zuckerberg’s Jiu-Jitsu coach reached out to the NYT reporter who published the story, stating that Zuckerberg was not snoring but it was “effortful grunting.”

The referee who officiated the contest had a different version of events.

The referee’s account of events

In an interview given to Bloody Elbow, referee Lucas Costa clarified his side of the story. He said that Zuckerberg’s fight surprised him. The tech billionaire showed up in minimal disguise with a six-man security team.

“He goes forward a lot. He attacks more with very little defense,” commented Costa on ‘Zuck’s Jiu-Jitsu game. Costa also explained the context of a video that surfaced later.

The veteran said, “There was no argument. It was in Gi and he got choked out. That was the video you saw. I stopped it and he wanted to check with me about why I stopped it. He didn’t know what was happening, which was one of the reasons I stopped it. But he had started to snore and the rule set says that snoring is a version of a verbal tap.”

He further added that the Meta CEO was incredibly polite about the whole affair. He simply wanted to know how the rules worked. Costa said he got caught in an Ezekiel and started to snore. Upon the third snore, he stepped in to stop the fight.
