The fight at UFC 287 against Gilbert Burns is, in all likelihood, a must-win situation for Jorge Masvidal. The UFC’s BMF title holder is on a three-fight losing skid against the top stars of the welterweight division. With a win in the co-main event at UFC 287, ‘Gamebred’ could prove that he still belongs to the elite levels of the weight class.
However, the pressure of the upcoming bout is not keeping him from seeing the bigger pictures. During the UFC 287 media scrum, ‘Street Jesus’ made his own case for a title shot against Leon Edwards. While doing so, he also slipped in a jibe at ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor.

With a win over Burns, Masvidal hopes to leapfrog other contenders, including his nemesis Colby Covington, for a title shot. His beef with Edwards will also make a compelling storyline to sell the potential title bout. When asked about the same, Masvidal had quite a few things to say about his own star power.

Jorge Masvidal disses Conor McGregor, angles for WW title shot
During the media session, one interviewer asked Jorge Masvidal if his fight against Leon Edwards was the biggest possible bout at 170 at the moment. ‘Gamebred’ replied affirmatively but acknowledged that a Conor McGregor fight was the only exception.
He said, “Oh definitely, you know. I mean, unless Conor’s bit*h a** came to 170, but that midget ain’t coming up to fight me.”
The 39-year-old continued, “It goes without saying, me and Leon sell pay-per-views, you know. Leon and Usman, what did that do? Those numbers ain’t even out cause it did so sh*tty I heard, you know. It’s just, you know, they’re both great fighters, great tacticians and stuff but they don’t risk it for the biscuit all the time.”

He concluded, saying, “And fans, you know, like, ‘eh, okay. You’re kind of playing it safe if you’re doing the distance thing where you’re just doing the hugging thing and sniffing nuts.’ Fans don’t wanna pay [for] that sh*t.”
Conor McGregor and Jorge Masvidal have exchanged bitter words several times before. However, a fight between the pair has never been a discussion. Nevertheless, Masvidal has not refused from taking an opportunity to trash the Irishman, once even claiming to break his bones if they ever fought.
