He remembers that his mother used to eat whatever the kids left after their supper, <em>" [My mother thought] always about us," Chimaev says. "When you are young, you don't understand why she would give food to us and then [be] waiting for us. We finish the food and the things we left, she eats [only] this. Now, when I become older, I understand what she did."</em>

Khamzat Chimaev and his family moved to Sweden when his older brother Artur moved to Sweden to seek medical treatment for torn ligaments in his shoulder he sustained in wrestling. Artur called upon his family to leave the wartorn place and be in Sweden for better opportunities.
