The trilogy between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor is one of the most talked-about and engaging trilogies in combat sports.
After first fighting at UFC 178, Conor and Dustin met again at UFC 257 and UFC 264. UFC 264 became the second-highest selling card in UFC history after UFC 229, which headlined Conor vs. Khabib. UFC 257 is also amongst the top 5 in all-time sales. This just shows that Conor is the biggest draw in UFC.
The last fight between the pair was at UFC 264, which Poirier won via doctor stoppage. People were divided on how the trilogy ended, and many expect a fourth fight between the two. Many people weren’t happy with Dustin’s celebrations after the fight as well. The latest one to have his say is UFC welterweight Colby Covington.

In a recent interview, Dustin’s former training partner Colby was asked if Poirier should have been proud of the win. Colby said, “Absolutely not! That was a fluke ending. The way Conor threw the kick, he threw a front kick, and it landed on Dustin’s elbow. That’s an accidental fluke ending. You can’t celebrate. This is this nice, charitable guy that pretends to be this nice guy on camera. He was strutting in Conor’s face right after the fight. Dude, that just made you millions and millions of dollars and made your career, and you’re going to laugh at him during this fluke ending.”
Colby has never held his feelings about Dustin hidden. He and Dustin used to train at the same gym. Covington blames Dustin for forcing him to leave the gym.
What’s next for Colby Covington?
Colby Covington is preparing to fight UFC welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, at UFC 268.
This will be a rematch of the UFC 245 fight between the two, which Usman won in the fifth round via TKO. The loss to Usman was just the second loss of his career. It was one of the year’s best fights and won the ‘Fight of the Night.’

Usman, on the other hand, has lost only one fight in his career. That was also way back in 2013. Since the loss, Kamaru has won 18 fights in a row and has defended his UFC welterweight title four times. He is the number 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC.
Colby will look to get revenge on Usman and will try to take the championship away from him. The hatred between the two has always been out there for everyone to see. The two fighters have clarified that they don’t like each other. If the first fight is any sign, fans worldwide are in for a treat when the two rivals go up against each other at UFC 268 on November 6, 2021.
