‘Chaos’ is back! After a long absence from the octagon, UFC welterweight Colby Covington is all set for a comeback. Following his last UFC 272 bout, where he dismantled best-friend-turned-rival Jorge Masvidal, the former interim Welterweight champ has been out of the MMA scene for over a year. However, the tide seems to be changing.
Dana White recently announced a potential title fight between the division champ Leon Edwards and ‘Chaos’ scheduled for UFC 295, as a part of UFC’s 30th Anniversary show. But Covington is not too happy about it. What’s more – he recently mocked Lightweight champ Islam Makhachev and his camp, alleging that they’re trying to “interject” into the Welterweight title scene.

In a recently uploaded clip aimed at MMA veteran and analyst Chael Sonnen, ‘Chaos’ vented his frustration on Islam Makhachev trying to get a second title defense bout in the same year. Back in February, the Dagestani fighter squared off against Featherweight champ Alexander Volkanovski with the Lightweight title up for grabs. But Islam beat ‘Volk’ in his own game and established himself as a force to be reckoned with.
The fact that Islam has another fight lined up – his next title defense against Charles Oliveira at UFC 294 – does not feel justified to ‘Chaos.’ What’s more – he argues that the Dagestani camp is pretty “desperate” on making the fight happen.
Moreover, mocking the Lightweight champ, Covington said, “I think – even on Makhachev’s side coming out – I think he’s looking a little desperate. I think they don’t like what they’re being told.”
While Covington is eager to claim the Welterweight title once again, he believes that Makhachev’s camp is making a “desperate” move to secure another high-profile fight in the same year.

In the same vein, he further added, “They’re trying to interject themselves, but that fight doesn’t make sense.” Chaos argues that the UFC and Dana White are unlikely to tie up two belts without reason. They have plans for a big end-of-the-year show, UFC 295, which coincides with the end of their media rights deal. This means they want to showcase the biggest and best fights before negotiating a new media rights deal.
He concluded his opinions with a bold declaration. The Welterweight contender remarked, “They’re[the UFC and Dana White] not going to tie up two belts in the desert for no reason.”
