One look at the history of sports and anybody can tell that the most popular and sometimes the most successful fighters are the ones who can ‘talk the talk’ and ‘walk the walk’. UFC’s favorite son, Conor McGregor, is definitely one of the most important and popular fighters in the promotion. However, recently, he has just been talking the talk and fans are waiting for him to back it up with a scintillating return fight.

One of McGregor’s fiercest and wildest rivalries, during his active days in the UFC, was with the undefeated former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. Their rivalry is widely weighed as one of the greatest yet nastiest rivalries that the sport has ever seen. McGregor, at that time, picked up beef not just with Nurmagomedov, but even with his manager Ali Abdelaziz. The pair often goes back and forth on social media as has just happened recently.

Minutes after Justin Gaethje‘s BMF title win over Dustin Poirier at UFC 291, Conor McGregor issued a Tweet saying that he would slap Gaethje around in a fight. He proceeded to follow that up with another Tweet claiming that he is the real BMF in the UFC and that he is ready for the fight if Gaethje is willing.

In an interesting turn of events, McGregor seems to have relinquished the idea of a match against Michael Chandler as he is eyeing the BMF belt currently. He recently sent out another Tweet, guaranteeing a one-shot K.O. of Justin Gaethje, if the two were to go at it. The fans were divided on this but one man didn’t seem to flounder as he called out McGregor.

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s manager Ali Abdelaziz replied to McGregor’s tweet by saying, “You only can KO your brother artem“. Artem Lobov and Conor McGregor used to be best of friends and training partners. However, the two had a fallout over some monetary disputes a few months ago. Abdelaziz used this to insult the 35-year-old.

While all the Twitter back and forth is happening just fine, McGregor’s return is still uncertain. Regardless, a fellow lightweight believes the former champion is only one win away from a title shot once he returns.

People are starting to wonder why Conor McGregor is not coming back to the Octagon, despite making promises. He has seemingly given up his fight against Michael Chandler and is now calling out Justin Gaethje. UFC fighter Beneil Dariush seems to think that if McGregor can return to the UFC and win his first fight, a title shot against Islam Makhachev might be on the table.

The top 5 lightweight shared his conviction of the same during an interview with Submission Radio a few months ago. He also said that Chandler would be the easiest fight out of all the available options for McGregor. However, with everything that is happening around McGregor, it is difficult to say when he might be returning, regardless of the opponent
