Alexander Volkanovski pulled up to the UFC 293 PPV in Sydney to support his City Kickboxing teammate Israel Adesanya. However, the pre-fight interview with ‘The Great’ took an amusing turn when a question about Volkanovski’s wished-for clash against Islam Makhachev was brought up.

The interviewer asked if a rematch with Islam Makhachev, who is also a top fighter and the current UFC Lightweight champ, would be a perfect fight for UFC 300. ‘The Great’ replied, saying it would be a great idea, especially if he could win. He believes many people want to see this fight again because it’s very competitive, and he’s confident he can win in a rematch.

The Featherweight champ declared, “I mean – I think so, you know what I mean. I think that makes a lot of sense. Yeah – for sure, you know I think that would be great. I truly do believe that a lot of people want to see it again. It’s very competitive and I guarantee I’ll get it done next time!”

However, this is not the first time Makhachev’s manager has stirred the pot with his remarks. Back in April, after Justin Gaethje’s dominant BMF title win, he snubbed ‘Volk’ and asserted that ‘The Highlight’ would be the “toughest” opponent for Makhachev. Arguing his stance, Abdelaziz had declared, “I think Justin Gaethje will be Islam Makhachev’s toughest fight – because he can wrestle – he can strike.”
