In an interview with ‘MMA Fighting,’ the current Bellator lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov revealed that McGregor’s catastrophic loss to Khabib continues to haunt him to this day. This, he believes, could explain the Irishman’s persistent virtual attacks on the Russian fighter and his Dagestan clan. With racist and even Islamophobic statements, ‘Notorious’ is continually attempting to capture the attention of his greatest torturer, persuading him to come out of retirement and, eventually, a rematch.

However, Usman Nurmagomedov further took things personal. The fighter from Team Nurmagomedov added that Conor McGregor’s children would have to deal with this for the rest of his life and that he will be passing on his anguish to them. In fact, this would be a dismal chapter for the entire McGregor family. He said, “Maybe because Khabib kicked his a–. He wants a rematch but he has to live with this all his life and his kids have to live with this all his life. He has to live with this and pass with this. All his family, all his legacy, all this, is around this. He lost to Khabib when [he] had to win.”

It is worth noting that it was the Bellator champion’s fight that reignited the feud. Whether it was a coincidence or not, ‘The Eagle’s cousin’s most recent fight, in January of this year, rekindled the Nurmagomedov-McGregor rivalry. After all, Usman Nurmagomedov defended his Bellator gold against an Irishman named Paul Hughes. The setting was enough to pique the MMA community’s interest in the confrontation, which if indirectly, brought ‘Notorious’ and ‘The Eagle’ back into conflict.

Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov, two of the most famous MMA fighters of all time, once competed in the most intense rivalry in UFC history. It’s no surprise that their UFC showdown in 2018 ended in a confrontation between the two teams. Seven years later, this dispute is still alive. For this reason, Khabib Nurmagomedov’s cousin, Usman Nurmagomedov, criticized the Irishman’s present circumstances, implying that ‘Notorious’ is obsessed with his family.

After five nearly-even rounds, Nurmagomedov defeated Hughes by majority decision and kept the belt. Following the fight, the challenger went to his opponent’s corner and exchanged pleasantries with ‘The Eagle’ and members of his squad. Conor McGregor slammed the Irishman’s attitude, questioning the prospect’s nationalism and identity on social media. A few weeks later, Conor went so far as to spit in the face of a Khabib Nurmagomedov fan after being personally provoked.

Conor McGregor, one of the most controversial figures in the UFC, made headlines once again, and this time it was for reasons outside the Octagon. This time, the former Irish champion was caught spitting on a fan who provoked him with a reference to his former rival, Khabib Nurmagomedov. The incident, which quickly went viral, occurred while McGregor was walking through a shopping mall. A fan yelled at him, “Let’s go, Khabib!” which unleashed the fighter’s fury.
