Conor McGregor was last seen inside the Octagon at UFC 264 against Dustin Poirier. The match ended with the 35-year-old suffering a leg injury. Since then, the former two-division champion has been out of action. However, McGregor has recovered from his injury and is expected to make a return at UFC 300. While many believed Michael Chandler to be a worthy opponent for him on his return, Attar believes a Poirier rematch might be on the cards.

MMA Junkie posted a video on Instagram where Attar said:  ” That trilogy is definitely one of the biggest. Poirier rematch, the fight with Poirier ended with an injury. He got stopped because of an injury . So ultimately that has to be run back. Also, Chandler fight is also because of the build-up in TUF. So I think… There are many fighters outside of those two fighters. There are lot of great matchups for McGregor to match up against. I can’t wait for the trilogy to happen. Two of the legends of the sport continue to shine bright. Those two together make sure there is exciting content and competition for the fans. “

Another potential opponent is the BMF title holder Justin Gaethje, whom McGregor has called out quite a few times. The pair share some bad blood and Gaethje’s BMF title is appealing to the Irishman.

The fighters met at UFC 178 for the first time in their careers, where McGregor won the fight via first-round TKO. Their next meeting happened at UFC 257; this time round, Poirier won the contest via second-round TKO. ” The Diamond” leads their head-to-head battle with a score line of 2-1.
