Colby Covington recently faced backlash for his comments about Leon Edwards‘ late father. Several UFC fighters and even fans from the MMA community stood against his comments. Recently, UFC newcomer, Michael Page, also sounded off on Covington for stooping low during the UFC 296 press conference.
Michael ‘Venom’ Page recently discussed his UFC debut matchup against Kevin Holland. He believes that they will have a playful banter in the lead-up to the fight at UFC 299. ‘Venom’ recently appeared in an interview on YouTube. He mentioned his excitement about joining the UFC and his upcoming fight against Kevin Holland there. While mentioning the trash talk part of the fighting business, Michael Page noted things have changed in the current era, and he does not like what he’s witnessed as of late. He said, “I don’t like what I’m seeing nowadays.”
Michael Page indirectly mentioned Colby Covington’s recent tirade over Leon Edwards. He claimed he was against fighters stooping so low that they tended to attack their opponents’ families. “I don’t like when people are talking about people’s dead fathers, people talking about people’s partners and girlfriends,” said the 36-year-old.
- The UFC newcomer believes that professional fighters have deviated from the martial arts aspect of MMA. Instead, they want to take jibes and entertain to make people tune in to watch their fights. Michael Page further stated, “We seem to have stepped away from where mixed martial arts, martial arts being the key phrase for me.” He further mentioned how he feels about fighters who go down the cheap tactics route. Let’s have a closer look at that front.
“No respect” for fighters going low with their verbal attacks
Michael Page claims to be a conventional individual. He understands how to go about when it comes to creating excitement and anticipation for a fight. Page claims that whatever is said in the build-up to a matchup should only involve the two competitors and not extend to their family members. He said, “I come from a traditional background. I get the hype, I get the ‘me and you going back and forth’, but leave everybody else out of it.”

However, if he learns about any fighter going above and beyond and getting personal with trash-talking tactics, Michael ‘Venom’ Page has no regard for them. He is not a fan of such stunts. “I have no respect for anybody [who thinks] this has to go down that way,” said the UFC newcomer.

Michael Page is known for his antics inside the cage, but there have been no situations of him going down the same route as Colby Covington. Nevertheless, fans are eager to see him compete inside the Octagon. Page is a veteran in the sport and people would be expecting a great performance from him against Kevin Holland. We might even get to witness him fighting Covington as well. We will have to wait and see how things pan out for ‘MVP’ in the UFC.
