Khabib Nurmagomedov is inarguably one of the greatest athletes in MMA. He has fought many notable names during his time in the UFC. However, the fight that many fans fantasized about was Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson.

Unfortunately, even though both the men were scheduled for a fight many times by UFC, this much anticipated lightweight clash never came to fruition.

‘The Eagle’ has now retired from professional fighting. However, ‘El Cucuy’ isn’t done with him. He frequently takes shots at the undefeated fighter on the internet, hoping the Dagestan native might respond and want to fight. But the latter seems to be unfazed by it.

‘El Cucuy’ wrote in the caption, “‘Merica’ MF All You Do Is Eat Fathead @khabib_Nurmagomedov Talked Sh*t & Ran Home Like A Chicken To Avoid A Bloodbath. They Told Em’ He Wouldn’t Be Allowed Back Home If He Lost -2- Me…”

Many UFC fans speculated that this interesting lightweight bout might force ‘The Eagle’ to come out of retirement. However, Nurmagomedov has not shown any interest in returning to the UFC octagon.

Why Khabib Nurmagomedov Retired and Will He Return

‘The Eagle’ has an amazing undefeated record of 29-0 under his belt. He became the UFC lightweight champion after defeating Al Iaquinta at UFC 223. After three successful title defenses, the Dagestan native retired from professional fighting.

Khabib’s father and coach Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov passed away just before his fight with Justin Gaethje. He was by the cage side throughout Nurmagomedov’s UFC career. So after his death, ‘The Eagle’ promised his mother that he won’t continue without him and hung his gloves forever.

Even though the UFC officials and other MMA promotions offered him a hefty amount of money, Nurmagomedov never returned. He has stuck with the promise he made to his mother. Hence, fans might not see him return.
