UFC featherweight star Bryce Mitchell‘s podcasting career couldn’t have started off worse. The outspoken fighter, who, among other things, believes the earth is flat and gravity isn’t real, chose to discuss how he would like to go fishing with Hitler on the first episode of his newly launched podcast.
This, predictably kicked up quite a storm. To the point that UFC CEO Dana White, who believes in letting fighters speak their mind, had to intervene and publicly chew out the Arkansas native. This prompted the featherweight to issue an apology and the UFC has indicated that it won’t take any action against Mitchell.
But UFC vet Josh Thomson believes that while there may not be any formal action against Mitchell, the promotion might give him a tough matchup for his troubles. “You got to give the fans what they want, man. They want to see him get his ass beat. So they’re [the UFC are] going to be like ‘hey we’re gonna match you up with this guy, take it or leave it, that’s.’ I wouldn’t be surprised,” Thomson said on his ‘Weighing In’ podcast.

The former 155fer was absolutely baffled at why Mitchell would say such wild stuff on his very first podcast. But then again, the veteran fighter is unaware of the Arkansas native’s more out there beliefs. Thomson did feel that Mitchell’s podcast must have gotten a fair few views because of the controversy. This might be true, but it may also have put a target on his back. But that may not necessarily be a bad thing.

What did Bryce Mitchell say in his apology?
Bryce Mitchell is not really known to back down from his comments. This is the same guy who called out Joe Rogan since the UFC commentator doesn’t believe in Mitchell’s flat earth theory and thinks people who believe in it are stupid. But being chewed out by Dana White and almost the entire internet seems to have done the trick for Mitchell and his views on Hitler and the holocaust.
“I’m sorry I sounded offensive. I definitely was not trying to offend anybody, but I know I did. I know a lot of people died in the Holocaust, and that’s a fact. Hitler did a lot of evil things, I think we can all agree on that. I’m definitely not a nazi, and definitely do not condone any of the evil things Hitler did,” Mitchell wrote on his Instagram account.

”Thug Nasty’ would go on to clarify that “I’m not a Nazi”. Well, whether the UFC will indeed punish Mitchell with a tough matchup remains to be seen. But it might work to his advantage. The Arkansas native has built some momentum off of a good win over Kron Gracie last year and would be hoping to crack into the top ten this year.
And a win over a tough opponent may well help him do so sooner rather than later. What do you think about Josh Thomson’s take on the Bryce Mitchell controversy?
