UFC 279 is in the books. However, it will remain in the heads of MMA experts for a long time because of the chaos that the event’s fight week brought. While the shuffling of the contests affected many individuals, the key man announcing the weights of athletes, Jon Anik, had one of the toughest fight weeks of his career. Partner of the longtime UFC commentator, Joe Rogan, and former UFC dual champion, Daniel Cormier, Anik recently spoke to MMA Fighting and revealed inside information from Joe Rogan that Dana White shared.

The play-by-play UFC commentator, called the fight week of UFC 279 ‘wild’ and shared his senior counterpart’s words that he received ahead of the official weigh-ins.

Jon Anik revealed what Joe Rogan told him ahead of UFC 279

While the rumors of Khamzat Chimaev facing issues cutting down to 170 lbs were out before the weigh-ins, no one was certain about the exact scenario. But according to Anik, he got a heads up from his partner in crime.

Anik, who was in the ‘dark’, appreciated this gesture from Rogan and said, “Well, I was sworn to secrecy by the great Joe Rogan… [who] suggested that this is what Dana White was trying to do.”

The 53-year-old promoter, and his matchmaking team were put to work by Khamzat Chimaev’s massive weight miss to a contest around which the entire UFC 279 card was built. And considering the stakes, all media members had their eyes and ears on a man holding the microphone, i.e., Jon Anik.

The commentator shared his experience during the entire fiasco.

“My enthusiasm of the possibility of this new fight card quickly went just a little bit to anxiety, in terms of some of the voice-over work that needed to be done, with immediacy,” expressed Anik.

The Anik and Florian podcast host, offered that the craziness of Nate Diaz‘s final UFC fight card will be a tough ask to match for any other event.

While the sport is unpredictable, rearranging matches of such magnitude chiefly considering the stars involved was a commendable job from the UFC.
