Can Stipe Miocic's new weight strategy overpower Jon Jones, or is 'Bones' just too agile?

Stipe Miočić‘s return to the Octagon has been fraught with controversy. Despite Tom Aspinall having already done everything to qualify for the world heavyweight title fight, the UFC decided to give the opportunity to a former champion who has been out of the Octagon since 2021, that too after he was knocked out by Francis Ngannou on that fateful evening. Now that the American returns to the ring to challenge Jon Jones for the strap he once held, fans await to see what happens at UFC 309.

There’s no denying the fact that Miocic is a fighter who can be a true threat to anyone he comes against. And in order to win his fights, his huge build does play a key role in helping ‘Stone Cold’ grab the upper hand. But how big is he? How much does the former heavyweight champion of the UFC weigh? This is a question that surely must be in the minds of his fans. So without further ado, let’s find out all about Stipe Miočić’s size.

Stipe Miočić is a huge man. Despite being as tall as Jon Jones with a height of 6’4″, Miocic seems huge because of his massive build. However, that wasn’t the case in his fight with the Cameroon native. During his fight against Francis Ngannou, Miocic only weighed 234 pounds. And while it still might sound a lot, it was much lower to Francis Ngannou. As a result, the body advantages worked against ‘Stone Cold’ as he lost his title.

However, this time, he is making sure that he doesn’t repeat the mistake again. As a result, he has now changed his weight from 240 pounds to over 245 pounds. In an interview ahead of his clash with Jon Jones, Miocic said, “I used to be around 240-ish, and the [Daniel Cormier] fights, I just kept losing weight. I don’t know. I was eating a ton of food; I just kept losing it. So we changed some things up in my camp, and I’m eating a lot more and doing the right things. I’m definitely over 240, so 245 [pounds].” Well, it sure looks like Miocic has gained the size that he truly wanted. So how does he compare to ‘Bones’ now?

Who walks around heavier, Jon Jones or Stipe Miočić?

What’s your perspective on:

Can Stipe Miocic's new weight strategy overpower Jon Jones, or is 'Bones' just too agile?

Have an interesting take?

At the current moment, Jon Jones weighs 240 pounds, as he revealed on his Instagram. Although he used to be a light heavyweight at 235, he still feels fast and strong at 240. But that’s still a minimum difference of five pounds since Miocic weighs over 245 at the moment. This surely would work in favor of Miocic, who has experienced the downside of size disadvantages in his previous fight.

Even Chael Sonnen believes that at the moment, Stipe Miočić, who is bigger than Jones, would surely have the upper hand in the fight. On his YouTube channel. He said, “Do you think that Jon Jones can knock out Stipe Miočić? And that is the one place where that size does actually come in, where the power actually comes in. It would move in Stipe’s favor. Am I wrong about that? Do you believe Jon is the better stand-up fighter?”

However, it is worth noting that Jon Jones sits as the 4-to-1 favorite to beat Miocic. So one surely cannot count Jones out since he has a history of being the big man standing as the winner inside the Octagon. And with a reach advantage of 4.5 inches over Miocic’s 80.0″ reach, ‘Bones’ would be looking to rely on his speed and agility to win the fight over the sheer size of ‘Stone Cold.’ What do you think? Who will win the fight? Let us know in the comments.
