It is public knowledge at this point that Jon Jones wants to get paid the big bucks. ‘Bones’, the reigning UFC heavyweight champion, has finally come around, kicking and screaming, to at least the prospect of fighting interim champ Tom Aspinall. However, the consensus MMA GOAT has one ominous condition- he wants “f**k you money” to do so. After all, ‘Bones’ holds all of the cards, having promised to retire if he doesn’t get his way.

Some fear Jones’ financial demand may just be a ploy to price himself out of the Aspinall fight, but that remains to be seen. The question most have, however, is just how much, the said “f**k you money” demanded by Jones actually is. But Hollywood star Frank Grillo, who is set to play a vital role in the rebooted ‘Superman: Legacy’ on the big screen next year has an estimate, which he shared on the ‘Pound 4 Pound’ podcast with Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo.

‘I think it should be a base salary of $20 million [for Jones to fight Aspinall], and then whatever the whole thing is after, you know, bonuses and gate and whatever it is you can [get]. I think [Mike] Tyson just cleared $37 million [for the Jake Paul fight] based on the whole thing. It’s like there’s gotta be a number where you go ‘I’m f***ing happy, I don’t give a s**t I lost. I’m riding off into the sunset with f**k you money and I don’t care,'” Grillo said.

Of course, Jones, along with his base pay, will also get a share of the pay-per-view revenue, sponsorship money from Venum, and any performance bonuses he earns for the Aspinall fight.

The PPV revenue itself would be quite substantial, given the magnitude and hype around a possible Jones-Aspinall fight, and may well run into high seven or low eight figures, which could very well translate into the definition of ‘f**k you money’ that Jones has demanded. But, on the other hand, there is also another lucrative fight emerging for Jones to fight.

Could Jon Jones fight Francis Ngannou?

Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall may be the biggest fight that could possibly be made in the entire sport. But there is another, which, by its novelty and unprecedented nature comes a close second. A twist in the tale of Jones’ MMA future came after PFL CEO, Peter Murray asked the UFC to ‘step up’ and make a Jon Jones vs. Francis Ngannou clash.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Jon Jones' 'f**k you money' demand a genius move or a fight-dodging tactic?

Have an interesting take?

Both Ngannou and Jones, of course, have expressed interest recently in making the fight, but the UFC has been totally against it. After all, Dana White and Co. absolutely detest the PFL heavyweight champ because of the way he left the UFC last year, and will not be in favor of co-promoting an event with the PFL, their biggest competitor in the MMA space.

But keen-eyed analyst and UFC insider Chael Sonnen thinks that UFC’s rejection is just the first step in the fight’s promotion, cautioning fans not to write off the chances of a possible Jones-Ngannou scrap. Even Saudi Arabia’s Turki Alalshik, who is in the business of putting up the biggest fights in the world, has made noises about Jones-Ngannou being a reality.

But it seems that fight is indeed dead on arrival, given Dana White’s recent post on Instagram. “Not true. Jon vs Tom [next],” White wrote in response to these speculations. But this is the fight business and the Saudis, who seemingly have limitless amounts of money, could well make the UFC an offer so ridiculously high that it just cannot refuse. What are your thoughts on Grillo’s take on Jon Jones’ payday for an Aspinall fight?
