Tony Ferguson is on a six-fight losing streak in the UFC. However, at one point in time, the lightweight was one of the scariest fighters in the business. This led his coach Eddie Bravo to dub him ‘El Cucuy’ (The Boogeyman). He was once able to put together a 12-fight win streak, leading him to the interim championship of the UFC.

But, in an attempt to become the undisputed champion, he would have had to face Khabib Nurmagomedov. Unfortunately, that fight famously fell through 5 times! And after Nurmagomedov retired as a fighter following his father’s death in 2021, the prospects of the fight ended. And Ferguson has made a surprising revelation on how ‘The Eagle’s retirement affected him.

In an appearance on the MMA Hour Show on Youtube, Ferguson talked about how former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov took a toll on him. He clarified that the undefeated fighter’s retirement closed the door on a match between them, which Ferguson had been looking forward to.

“I know when Khabib left, a little part of me left with that,” he said. ‘El Cucuy’s career took a sharp downturn ever since his fights with Nurmagomedov fell through. Starting with a bad loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC 249 in 2020, he has been on the aforementioned six-fight loss streak. And fans took to the comments section to make their thoughts on Ferguson’s statement known.

“Finally some sense from Tony”

One fan was high on emotions as he made a bold claim:

“I thought Ferguson had a good chance to beat Khabib based on his MMA skill set and unorthodox style. I wasn’t a fan of Khabib. But after watching him maul EVERY opponent and beat them the same way makes me think Tony would’ve suffered the same fate. Khabib is the GOAT of UFC.”
