Former UFC fighter Ben Askren took to social media and shot out a jab at his former opponent, Jorge Masvidal. ‘Funky’ Ben has been in the mix in the UFC despite having retired in October 2019. In fact, while Askren has moved on to a stint in boxing, his thoughts continue to remain with the UFC welterweight roster.
There is no love lost between Masvidal and Askren, especially after the way their fight ended back in July 2019. ‘Gamebred’ KO’ed Askren in just five seconds with a vicious flying knee straight out of hell. What’s more, their enmity has continued to fester despite the fact that they’re no longer under the same promotional banner anymore.

Furthermore, Ben Askren seems to be doubling down on his disdain for Masvidal as he recently hit out at ‘Gamebred’. After spending almost two years listening to Masvidal’s jabs on social media, Askren sent out return fire a few days back. ‘Funky’ seemingly wants to exact revenge on the Miami native for his relentless online trolling.

The lead-up to the fight sowed the seeds of discontent amongst the aforementioned fighters that remain to this day. Both men were locked in a war of words, and the tension was palpable as the fight approached. However, no one could have expected the manner in which the contest would eventually play out.

Jorge Masvidal bolted across the cage and landed arguably the best-placed flying knee in the sport’s history. The blow landed flush to Askren’s jaw and knocked him out before his body hit the canvas. Moreover, Masvidal’s post-fight celebration added fuel to the fire and didn’t help in turning over their intense rivalry.
The KO awarded Jorge Masvidal with the ‘2019 Fighter of the Year’ honors and more importantly cemented his star status. He’s one of the biggest draws in the promotion and is now fighting for gold for the second time. As for Askren, he’s preparing to box 2-0 YouTuber turned pro boxer Jake Paul in what is sure to be a spectacle.
