Will Guram Kutateladze's fierce pride ignite a new era of national rivalries in the UFC?

A simmering rivalry in the UFC is starting to boil over, but this time, it isn’t just about titles or takedowns. At UFC 308, Sharaputdin Magomedov made his fourth appearance inside the Octagon and pulled off a move that will feature in highlight reels for years to come! ‘Shara Bullet’ pulled off a jaw-dropping double-spinning back fist to knock out Armen Petrosyan and ended the night with a ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus.

However, his comments outside the Octagon have now gotten him involved in a heated feud with Guram Kutatleadze, a fiery force from Georgia. The two fierce competitors have locked horns and it’s not just for dominance inside the Octagon. Their dispute? A clash of pride, history, and patriotism.

In a recent interview, Sharaputdin Magomedov, known for his sharp words and sharper punches, stirred up controversy by taking aim at Georgian fighters. He stated, “Foreigners in general, or Georgians specifically they might be athletes mostly, particularly in this case. They didn’t really attend history or Geography classes, they spent more time wrestling and skipped Geography and History.”

His response was to a question about Merab Dvalishvili and his recent statements about how “Dagestan is not Russia and that Dagestanis are forced to represent Russia”. ‘Shara Bullet’s response? He fired back by stating, “….for some reason Georgians now seem to have a dislike for Russia. Even though they should be thankful because if they knew their history they would understand that Russia largely protected Georgians from Dagestan.”

This political twist didn’t sit well with Guram Kutateladze, a Georgian fighter as passionate about his heritage as he is about winning fights. He fired off on social media by warning Magomedov, “You’re an athlete, stop talking about the war with Georgia. Leave talk on camera and interviews. When we see each other, then we will talk about history lessons, geography, Russian language lessons and about life.”

For Kutateladze and many Georgians, these words cut deep. Rather than back down, Kutateladze has let Magomedov know that when they meet face-to-face, it won’t just be about physical strength but a clash over cultural pride and respect. With both fighters now primed for battle, the Octagon may be the only arena big enough to contain this fiery confrontation. But what about ‘Shara Bullet’s call-out of Israel Adesanya? Could that also be an opponent for him shortly? A former UFC champion doesn’t think he’s ready for that challenge yet!

Israel Adesanya is no stranger to callouts. Yet, when undefeated middleweight Sharaputdin Magomedov dared to challenge him after UFC 308, he found a former champion coming to his defense! In his post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier, ‘Shara Bullet’ took aim at Adesanya by proclaiming, “Listen to me guys, I’m the best striker in this division. (I would smash) Israel Adesanya.”

While ‘The Last Stylebender’ reacted with a meme fest on YouTube by referencing 50 Cent and Will Smith as he clapped back with, “Keep my name out your f—-ing [mouth]…What the f—did I do? Why he say f—-me for?”, Kamaru Usman handed the rising middleweight star a stern warning.

Speaking on an episode of the ‘Pound 4 Pound’ podcast that he hosts with Henry Cejudo, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ stated, “I know at the end of the fight he called out Israel Adesanya. Slow your roll buddy, slow your roll.” Despite the impressive finish, Usman pointed out Petrosyan had outperformed Magomedov for much of the fight, even winning the early rounds.

To Usman, this showed that Magomedov, though promising, wasn’t ready for a fighter of Adesanya’s caliber. The young fighter’s flashy moves might be exciting, but Usman suggested that might not be enough to rattle Adesanya’s calm, calculated style that helped him dominate the middleweight division as a champion.

As we look ahead, two burning questions remain: will the Octagon be the proving ground for Magomedov and Kutateladze’s fierce national pride, or will Adesanya’s measured calm await ‘Shara Bullet’ down the line? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
