The consensus MMA GOAT will look to further solidify his dominance by claiming another victim in the form of the most accomplished UFC heavyweight of all time. We are of course talking about the duo of Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic. Ever since the bout was announced, pundits and fans have refused to give the Ohio native any chance against an opponent five years younger than him.
However, according to former dual champion Daniel Cormier, Miocic’s underdog status could work to his advantage. On Chael Sonnen’s Good Guy/Bad Guy podcast, Cormier shared his perspective on how the situation could play out, explaining how Miocic will have less pressure on him, which can often be translated into a powerful advantage.

The doubt in everyone’s mind is how Stipe Miocic, who happens to be in the twilight of his career, could be a viable question to the vicious answer in the form of Jon Jones at UFC 309. However, according to former dual champion Daniel Cormier, Jones has more to lose than Miocic in this fight.
‘Bones’ enters the fight virtually unbeaten in his career, aiming to end his tenure as a champion and retire without a single definitive loss. On the other hand, Miocic has the opportunity to clinch the gold for a record third time. Cormier believes that for Jones to maintain his perfect record, he will need to fight a flawless battle. The margin for error is razor-thin for Jones, while Miocic, at 42 years old, may approach the fight with a more liberated mindset, knowing that this could be his final opportunity to dethrone the champion.
DC discussed this point on Chael Sonnen’s podcast, where Sonnen, without hesitation, picked Jon Jones as the likely winner. However, Cormier disagreed, pointing out that Miocic is “playing with house money,” as the odds are stacked against him but the rewards are immense. With $7 million in potential earnings on the line, Miocic has the freedom to fight with less concern about the stakes, something Jones cannot afford given his status going in as a favorite.

While having a conversation with Scott Fontana of ‘New York Post Sports’, Jones was asked to share his opinion about his upcoming fight. Jones explained, “Yeah, I’m sure it will affect him. Not only the layoff but who he’s coming back to. I mean, he tries to act very indifferent during his interviews, like he just doesn’t care about anything.”
This was probably in response to Miocic’s claim in one of his interviews where he pointed out that the only way the fight ends will be via knockout. However, one just cannot rule out Jon Jones in a scrap. Who do you think will win the fight between the two at UFC 309? Let us know in the comments below.
