Conor McGregor‘s stint on the soon-to-be-aired TUF season has clearly got the attention of the MMA community. And it’s not just fans of the Irish superstar that are glued to his social media handles waiting for some sort of update on the show. Fighters alike have expressed their excitement about McGregor’s much-awaited comeback. But despite all the fanfare, there also has been criticism thrown at the former double champ in connection with this season of TUF.

In one such instance, a former top 15 UFC lightweight has thrown shade at ‘The Notorious’ after a video clip of McGregor coaching his group of fighters was made public. The video, which also included UFC veteran Stephen Thompson, faced harsh criticism from none other than Michael Johnson. The 36-year-old is known and respected among MMA fans and has had experience fighting almost every top contender in the division. Since the duo does not necessarily share any history of rivalry, this came as quite a surprise to fight fans.

The clip in discussion was shot during one of the training sessions of TUF 31. McGregor partnered up with Thomson and was seen explaining the intricacies of boxing fundamentals to his team. The Southpaw aptly captioned the video: “Working with the great Steve Thompson. Givin’ back to the game!”

Despite the Irishman emphasizing the fundamentals of striking, Michael Johnson interestingly seemed to find an issue with the technique. Maybe it could be a lack of footwork or something else, but the 36-year-old did not shy away from blasting the former double champ in his tweet.

Johnson himself is an impressive fighter and a striker. Having fought the likes of Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson in his career, the American might know a thing or two about bad form and technique.

Although Johnson might be a seasoned veteran, Stephen Thomson is also considered amongst the best strikers in the sport. Since the welterweight has been reportedly roped in by the former double champ as part of his team, one can only wonder if Johnson’s criticism of the technique carries any weight. Because if it was indeed flawed like ‘The Menace’ mentioned, Thompson would have surely rectified it.

And for fighters under the Irishman’s team, this obviously could well be the best opportunity for them to pick up a few tricks from this legendary duo.
