Should Joe Rogan stick to podcasting, or does he have what it takes for stand-up comedy?

UFC commentator and podcaster Joe Rogan needs no introduction in the digital world; he’s a household name in the Western world and talented in many aspects. Starting his career in the mid-80s, he released his first comedy special on CD in 2000. After hosting ‘Fear Factor,’ he launched his successful show, ‘The Joe Rogan Experience,’ in 2009 which continues to run to this day.

In 2020, Spotify bought the exclusive rights to host ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ for an estimated $200 million. As of March 2024, JRE had 14.5 million followers on Spotify, making it the leading show in its category, surpassing its closest competitor, TED Talks Daily, which has 5 million followers, but three times smaller than Rogan’s show.

However, many fans may have forgotten about Rogan’s other side as a comedian, which he left six years ago. Now, he is returning to perform live for Netflix, with the show slated for August 3rd. He made the big announcement on Instagram writing, “Saturday, August 3rd I’m doing a live comedy special on @netflix at 10 pm East Coast Time. I’m very pumped for this and I hope you enjoy it.”

Rogan last did stand-up comedy in 2019. Since then, he has focused on expanding his podcast and doing UFC commentary. While the 56-year-old seemed eager to make a comeback to comedy, the fans weren’t as thrilled as they took to the comment section to dish out some advice for the veteran. Commenting on Rogan’s skills, a social media user wrote, “Stick to the podcast. Your stand-up is mid” while another fan wondered, “He still hasn’t given up on that stand-up thing?”

Meanwhile, another fan who claimed to have witnessed one of his post-stand-up comedy shows gave his advice politely, unlike the previous comments. He commented, “I saw Rogan live at Chicago theater. Dude should really stick to podcasting and UFC. Please.” Another fan brought up former Navy SEAL David Goggins, known for his running feats, claiming that Goggins would want to steer clear of the title with the comment, “David Goggins hasn’t stopped running since he saw the title.”
