Is Conor McGregor's legacy tarnished by these steroid allegations, or can he still make a triumphant return?

Things have really soured between Conor McGregor and Sean O’Malley! The two have been involved in heated exchanges on social media causing a frenzy in the MMA sphere. Once someone O’Malley admired and learned from, ‘The Notorious’ ignited the feud when he dragged the bantamweight champion into his rant against Ryan Garcia’s PED usage in his fight against Devin Haney.

Not one to stay quiet, O’Malley fired back with a salvo of his own as he claimed on an episode of ‘The TimboSuga Show’ podcast that, “I switch sides fast, f*ck Conor. When your idols become your rivals.” If you’ve been following the back-and-forth between these two, you might be wondering: is this all there is to the story? In a surprising statement, ‘Suga’ has now come out and blasted McGregor as he claimed that there’s something else behind the Irishman’s animosity towards him!

In a recent interview with Kevin Iole, the bantamweight champion opened up on what led to the feud between him and the fighter he once admired. O’Malley shared, “It started on his side, you know, jealousy is not a great emotion and uh, I mean that’s the only thing I can think of. He’s jealous which sounds crazy, it’s Conor McGregor, he’s got millions of dollars, so do I, he’s got a Lamborghini yacht, I don’t but I don’t really want a Lamborghini yacht.”

McGregor, with his millions of dollars, luxury cars, and even a Lamborghini yacht, seems to have it all. So why would he be jealous of O’Malley, a fighter on the rise? According to O’Malley, “But it’s just like, he’s done so much in the sport and now I’m coming up and I’ve never done anything but praise him and he’s you know, throwing pot shots at me left and right. So, like, it’s yeah, I’m not gonna just take it and be like, yeah yeah.”

Things have escalated to the point where O’Malley is even considering a potential fight with McGregor. O’Malley is game—if McGregor can get his weight under control, that is. O’Malley teased the idea of meeting McGregor at 155 pounds, but there’s a catch. ‘Suga’ claimed that, “…if he could actually have a little bit of discipline and get his weight under control we can meet at 155. But he’s on steroids, he’s way too big, he’s huge right now so it’s just not realistic.”

The accusations of PED usage are huge coming from O’Malley as McGregor had fired off against him for his previous issues with Ostarine that had caused ‘Suga’ to be suspended by USADA in 2018. However, he had later claimed it was due to consuming supplements tainted by the banned substance. Their feud however has now gotten to the point that the bantamweight champion has indicated that he is determined to not turn into his ‘idol’ later in his career!

O’Malley claims he does not want to turn “bitter” like McGregor

In a recent interview with ESPN, Sean O’Malley confessed that early on in his career, he’d look to Conor McGregor as the ‘blueprint’ he could follow to reach the same heights as the Irish MMA icon. But now, with ‘The Notorious’ being more active on social media than he is inside the Octagon, O’Malley has a different perspective.

The bantamweight champion indicated that, “I feel a lot of jealousy from Conor McGregor, to be honest, which sucks. I hope I don’t get bitter like that, I hope once my career starts maybe doing what he is doing – well, I hope my career never does that – I hope once I’m a little bit older and see someone else coming up, that I’m excited for them, happy for them.”

O’Malley also shared that he aims to grow into a “mentor” in the UFC and not try to cling on to the spotlight in the twilight of his career. The entire saga illustrates how times can change and fighters can find themselves at odds with the people they once considered to be their heroes and inspirations.

Will this ‘beef’ finally culminate in a clash inside the Octagon? After all, the Irishman does have two more fights left on his UFC contract. Do you think Sean O’Malley will face Conor McGregor in the future? Let us know your thoughts on their ‘feud’ in the comments below!
