The former UFC champion is now fighting under the BKFC banner. He recently suffered a loss against Mike Perry at BKFC 56 in the main event. Before that fight, Alvarez appeared in an interview with ‘The Schmo’. There, he was asked about what he thought of Conor McGregor making his return at UFC 300. The former UFC champion seemed doubtful about that possibility.
“I see him training but I just don’t see, no, I don’t see it happening [McGregor’s UFC 300 return],” said Eddie Alvarez. He suggested that there could be an incident that leads him to not appear on the UFC 300 PPV. Alvarez further stated, “I see him training but I just don’t see, no, I don’t see it happening [McGregor’s UFC 300 return].”

Apart from the UFC 300 rumors, Eddie Alvarez speculated that the UFC may be trying to set up yet another big fight for ‘The Notorious’. They have done it in the past and there’s no reason why they won’t consider doing it again. “I think UFC down low, maybe trying to make the largest fight. They always wanna make the largest fight possible,” said the former champion. He even had a name for Conor McGregor’s potential opponent, who could make his comeback fight a big one.

Eddie Alvarez believes that the UFC could revisit one of Conor McGregor’s old rivalries and call upon his former opponent when he eventually returns to the Octagon. That former opponent is none other than the Stockton native, Nate Diaz. Alvarez said, “I think waiting in the wings is Nate Diaz secretly… maybe making them discussions with the UFC doing that Conor vs Diaz 3.”
Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz have etched their names in the UFC’s history books with two mega fights. Their first match and the rematch were two of the biggest financial successes for Dana White’s promotion. As such, Eddie Alvarez believes that the UFC could announce this at the time when McGregor nears his return, which could result in ‘The Notorious’ earning more than he did for his UFC 205 fight. His payday could be more than $5.5 million. “That’s one of the largest pay-per-views ever in UFC history. So, [it’d be] kind of stupid not to do [that] and I think that could be the curveball that we’re all waiting to hear,” said the former UFC champion.
