After weeks of anticipation, UFC 293 is now history and Sean Strickland is the new UFC Middleweight champion. The fighter went toe-to-toe with one of the greatest strikers in the form of Israel Adesanya, beating him on the scorecards of all three judges. Considering how good Adesanya’s striking is, this is no small feat and Strickland deserves all the credits for his triumph. Going into this fight, the American was a massive +450 underdog.

But contrary to the odds, the fighter pulled off one of the greatest upset in the history of the sport. The event was held in Australia’s capital Melbourne, which is closer to the Kiwi’s homeland. But despite this, Strickland’s victory was met with loud applause from the crowd. This was proof that Strickland had garnered some new supporters from Down Under. And going back to the world of social media, it looks they aren’t the only ones to cheer for the rise of the new 185 lb king.

Jan Blachowicz praises Sean Strickland in a unique way

In one of his recent tweets, former UFC Light Heavyweight champion, Jan Blachowicz has praised Sean Strickland but in a cheeky way. Last seen in action against Strickland’s former opponent, Alex Pereira, ‘John’ took just eleven words to express his thoughts. Applauding the newly crowned champion, Blachowicz wrote, “If something looks stupid, but works, it’s not stupid. I guess ;). #UFC293. Thus, in subtle words, he trolled Strickland but at the same time took a dig at his naysayers.

Known for his loud personality, Sean Strickland is known to not shy away from mouthing his thoughts regardless of how controversial or politically incorrect they might be. This vocalisation could be heard even during his trash talks, where the fighter takes a no-holds-barred approach. Something seen recently during the media day of UFC 293 when Israel Adesanya became a target of his constant insults. Sure, this personality earns him some fans.

But at the same time, puts ‘Tarazan’ in the bad book of many people who are also dismissive of his talent. Often referring the fighter as stupid. This probabily explains the motive behind Jan Blachowicz’s quote. It is interesting to note that both Blachowicz and Strickland both have beaten Israel Adesanya in the UFC. A claim only three MMA fighters can make, the third one being Alex Pereira.

Adesanya’s coach looking for redemption against the new champ

UFC 293 was a mixed bag for Israel Adesanya and in his team. Even though the champion along with his two teammates lost, three other members of City Kickboxing managed to seal the win. Giving a reason for the team to celebrate, and Adesanya soon left to join them. But after the former champion’s quick exit, his coach Eugene Bareman took his time to address the press.

During this time, the Kiwi revealed his desire for an immediate rematch against the Sean Strickland. According to him, things didn’t go as they had planned and he is confident that they can tilt the result in their favour with small adjustments.
