The UFC 285 card is heating up with anticipation as fans gear up to witness the sport’s elite fighters battling it out in the octagon. In a recent episode of ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’, the host was joined by former UFC fighter Paul Felder to break down the highly anticipated card. As they delved deeper into the excitement, the topic of the former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt came up, as he is set to make his comeback to the octagon after his last fight in December 2021. Both, Rogan and Felder, expressed their deep concerns about the downward spiral of Garbrandt’s career, who has suffered back-to-back knockouts, making them question how much a fighter can truly take before hitting rock bottom. They put it plain and simple, the once-feared fighter that Cody Garbrandt was, is now on thin ice.

Cody Garbrandt needs to break the KO chain

During the episode #135 of the JRE MMA Show, Joe Rogan and Paul Felder discussed the fall from the grace of Cody Garbrandt. The UFC commentator mentioned how ‘No Love’ was the ‘lead of the elite’ at one point. But the series of knockouts he’s suffered has played a major role in his downfall. Rogan stated, “You know with Cody Garbrandt after all these KOs, you’ve got to wonder like how many more does he have left, you know.”

He further added, “When a guy gets KOd a gang of times, like, there’s a lot of people that they- it gets to a certain point in time (where) you’re like, someone needs to step in and stop this rapid on.”

Adding to Joe Rogan‘s take, Paul Felder said, “Yeah it was like, 4 in a row or something for him.” “This sport’s rough on our heads to begin with. But when you’ve been put out that many (times), that’s when you really got to think, ‘Hey, maybe its time.'”

Having said that, even the 31-year-old’s uncle and former coach Robert Meese put out a grave disclaimed concerning Garbrandt’s comeback. As Joe Rogan questioned as to how many more of these KOs are left for Cody Garbrandt, Meese fears that the next one could stop the watch for him.

No more KOs or bye-bye, it is

Speaking with talkSPORT, Rob Meese put out an alarming disclaimer for his career. Garbrandt’s uncle believes that given all the back-to-back KOs Garbrandt has suffered lately, even one more addition to that list could end his career there and there. He told talkSPORT, “If Cody gets knocked out again, I am pretty sure his career is over, but Cody can come back, George Foreman hit a bump in his career and came back and he had more fun and made more money and won the heavyweight title,”

He further added, “So, Cody can come back, but he needs to learn fight defence, let your defence set up your offence, he’s been stopped four times,”

However, Cody Garbrandt’s road to his next fight at UFC 285 has hit a few bumps along the way. Originally scheduled to fight Julio Arce, the bout was canceled due to Arce’s injury. However, the UFC recently announced that Garbrandt will now face Trevin Jones in the octagon.

This fight is of utmost importance for ‘No Love’ as he needs to break the chain of back-to-back knockouts, which has been a worrying trend for the former bantamweight champion. With a 2-knockout loss streak already under his belt, the pressure is on for Garbrandt to step up to the plate and put his best foot forward.
