Joe Rogan recently had the opportunity to have a conversation with co-host of ‘Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast’, Shane Gillis. Amid the discussions, Rogan and Gillis endeavored to discuss the happening and aftermath of the war to end all wars, World War 1.

Gillis stated that he knew a painter who depicted the proper way a soldier saw the battlefield. Interestingly, the artist used to be a soldier as well. They were talking about the prominent German painter Otto Dix. Rogan was eager to witness the paintings but asserted that even the thought of the World War sent chills down his spine.

The duo then viewed the paintings that were etched by Dix and Rogan was completely horrified by the interpretation of war and the condition of soldiers in it. “Oh my God, everybody’s all bullet-holed and patched together. Oh wow, so he was a soldier? Oh my God, dude, these are horrific. Yeah, what did that guy see?,” voiced Rogan.

The paintings were as horrible as the war itself, but still, it was not able to justify the sufferings that the men in wars were been into. Gillis down in the conversation showed Rogan paintings from another war and the same artist’s darker works. The valuation of one of those paintings left Rogan completely bewildered.

Gillis asserted that Dix’s paintings were good, but there was another painter who gave justice to the art of portraying war scenarios. The JRE guest was referring to the Spanish painter Francisco Goya who portrayed the Spanish resistance during the Napoleonic wars. However, his later works took on a much darker tone. After viewing one of them, Rogan’s used the words “Some satan sh*t” to express his feelings.

It was the iconic “Saturn devouring his son” by Goya. Rogan asked his team (‘Young’ Jamie of course) to ascertain the value of the artwork. The painting was valued at approximately $7.5 million and it’s increasing day by day.
