UFC 300 will feature a couple of featherweight matchups on the main on April 13. One of those matchups will involve Sodiq Yusuff, who will return to action against Diego Lopez. But before we get to the historic pay-per-view, let us look at the Nigerian star’s background, family, ethnicity, religion, and more.

Sodiq Yusuff fought in several regional promotions before making their way to the UFC. His love for combat sports took shape due to his love for anime. Being a member of the UFC’s roster, fans are well acquainted with Yusuff’s abilities inside the Octagon. But not many people are aware of his background. Let’s have a look at that front.

Sodiq Yusuff: nationality, ethnicity, and birthplace

‘Super’ Sodiq was born to an extended family in the Nigerian capital of Lagos on 19 May 1993. According to sources, he grew up with his father having four wives in a polygamist society. When he was 9 years old, his mother decided to move him and his brother to the United States, leaving behind their life in Nigeria to pursue a new life. After moving to the States, Sodiq Yusuff became a dual citizen in Nigeria and the US.

When it comes to his faith, Sodiq Yusuff practices Islam, which is the most dominant religion in his native country of Nigeria. The move to the US seemed to have worked out for ‘Super’ as he caught the attention of the UFC in 2018, just two years after turning into a professional MMA fighter. Now that we have established the background of Yusuff, let us now take a look at his family.

About Yusuff’s family

Sodiq Yusuff, now 30 years old, has been married for almost a couple of years. He got engaged to Ashley Yusuff in early 2022 and then married her later that year. They have since become inseparable. Meanwhile, when it comes to Yusuff’s family as we’ve mentioned earlier, he had a brother, younger than him, and his mother. However, when he was living in Nigeria, he lived with all the members of his father’s four marriages, and ‘Super’ even had to share his house with 15 other children.

Sadly, Sodiq Yusuff lost his younger brother, Tope, when he had his first official UFC fight. He always drew positivity from his younger brother, who passed away after slipping into a coma as a result of catching typhoid fever, and it was a big blow to not only him but to his entire family.

Despite the drawbacks in his personal life, Sodiq Yusuff was able to keep his professional career in line. He has had 9 official UFC fights (including the DWCS fight) and has lost only twice so far. Yusuff could very well find himself in the title picture with a few more wins under his belt, starting with UFC 300.
