Islam Makhachev is one of the most promising fighters on the roster right now. Currently, the Dagestani fighter is on a roll. He’s won nine consecutive fights in a row. Many consider the young fighter to be the next Khabib Nurmagomedov in the UFC. And the way his career is going right now, it won’t be wrong to assume this.
Islam has been Khabib Nurmagomedov’s teammate and friend since they were both children. Makhachev and Khabib received their training from Khabib’s father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. Since his retirement, Khabib has served as a trainer and mentor to Islam Makhachev.
Makhachev stands fourth in the UFC’s lightweight division as of November 2021. His last fight was against the kiwi fighter, Dan Hooker. Hooker is regarded as one of the finest fighters on the ground. However, Islam finished him up in the opening two minutes of the fight through submission.

Islam Makhachev has been demanding a championship bout since his victory over Dan Hooker at UFC 267. His trainer, Khabib, believes he deserves a championship shot as well. ‘The Eagle’ recently took a shot at Justin Gaethje on Instagram, who is poised to compete for the title in his next bout.
Justin Gaethje, on the other hand, is unconcerned and has his eyes set on the gold. Islam Makhachev recently took another shot at ‘The Highlight’ on his Twitter. He indicated that he will be fighting Justin Gaethje for the title contender fight.

However, there hasn’t been any official response from either Gaethje or the UFC. Neither has any established source confirmed it. It appears like Islam is attempting to agitate Gaethje in order to get one step closer to the title.

Will Islam Makhachev fight Justin Gaethje next?
It’s improbable that Islam Makhachev will face Justin Gaethje in his next fight. The Dagestani fighter is placed fourth in the UFC rankings, just below Beneil Dariush. Dariush appears to be Makhachev’s most promising opponent, since Gaethje does not appear to be interested in facing him.
Justin Gaethje will very certainly face the winner of the Dustin Poirier vs. Charles Oliveira fight. Oliveira will fight Poirier for the lightweight championship title in a five-round bout at UFC 269.
