UFC Abu Dhabi delivered an astonishing main card on Saturday, featuring a women’s strawweight showdown between Mackenzie Dern and ranked #10 contender Loopy Godinez. In a grueling match, Dern, who hadn’t fought this year, secured a victory in the third round. She landed early strikes while Godniez focused on defense, keeping her guard high.

Godinez landed kicks and attempted takedowns, but Dern eventually regained control. Despite a strong arm triangle attempt in the second round, Dern’s effective striking in the third round served her the victory. Both fighters exchanged powerful strikes throughout the fight, but commentator Daniel Cormier claimed that Dern dominated the striking exchanges and was met with disagreement from fans on X. Even Henry Cejudo joined in the criticism,

X user @ElBorregoal claimed, “DC and the other commentator are so biased. Lupe has Dern’s eye all messed up due to her striking, but they’re saying Dern is the only one landing strikes. Who actually watched the fight?”

Fans react to Daniel Cormier’s claim about Mackenzie Dern

As the fight concluded, Mackenzie Dern secured a 29-28 victory over Loopy Godinez. UFC bantamweight contender Henry Cejudo commented, “Dern definitely leveled up her striking! I have it 30-28 Dern.” Another fan, dissatisfied with Cormier’s one-sided commentary, humorously questioned if Cormier was watching a different fight, commenting, “Watching the same fight, dudes are definitely being bias.”

The criticism didn’t stop there. Some fans questioned the event’s authenticity due to several questionable decisions, including Keith Peterson’s failure to not deduct a point from Guram Kutateladze for a shorts grab against Jordan Vucenic. A frustrated fan commented, “Robbery #UFCAbuDhabi,” while another, supporting Lupe Godinez, emotionally added, “Loopy robbed.”
