Alexa Grasso has a new challenger in sight. The dust has settled down in the flyweight division, and it is Erin Blanchfield who appears next in line after defeating Taila Santos at UFC Singapore. The high-voltage clash on August 26 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium promised fireworks, and the fans expected nothing but a banger of a fight. And the two flyweights didn’t disappoint the fans.

While the Brazilian came into the fight after previously failing against Valentina Shevchenko, she was eyeing another title shot. Meanwhile, ‘Cold Blooded’ Blanchfield was in hot red form with her 5-win streak. A win almost guaranteed a title shot in the immediate future, and the American fighter seized the opportunity with both hands.

What happened in the fight at UFC Singapore?

Both fighters unleashed their shots as soon as the bell rang. However, Santos’ blows appeared heavy and made a dent in Blanchfield’s defense. Further, she also held the upper hand as she also held an edge on the ground. Meanwhile, Blanchfield appeared gassed and tried to take the fight on the mat, but failed to taste success.

After a strong first round, Santos appeared more hungry for the finish and also mixed calf kicks that threw off Blanchfield. She also exhibited strong takedown defense as she fended off the more aggressive Blanchfield’s takedown efforts. However, soon the tables turned when Santos made a mistake and found herself on the mat. Blanchfield then bagged the round due to a strong ground game and control time.

In the final round too, Blanchfield tried to replicate the same game plan. In addition, Santos’ eye gave her trouble, which also worked in Blanchfield’s favor. Therefore, Blanchfield’s relentless and aggressive fighting style proved too much for Santos.
