The highly anticipated UFC 293 was a spectacle to behold. To add to the excitement of the bouts, the UFC was ready with a great broadcast team. However, Joe Rogan, the experienced UFC commentator, was absent from the UFC 293 PPV event that took place in Sydney, Australia. The 56-year-old does not prefer to travel internationally for UFC events. Moreover, he also stays away from covering ‘Fight Night’ cards.

When the JRE podcaster is unavailable for the promotion’s international events, UFC turns to former MMA fighters like Michael Bisping, Paul Felder, and Dominick Cruz to take Rogan’s place. The broadcast team is typically led by Jon Anik and former UFC two-division champion Daniel Cormier. This time, the promotion made history by giving a chance to Laura Sanko. Sanko is the first female commentator in the modern era of UFC, and UFC 293 was her very first PPV event as a commentator. Before UFC 293, Joe Rogan rightly predicted how Sanko’s commentary would go.

Joe Rogan sat with Bryan Callen, Brendan Schaub, and Sam Tripoli in the recent ‘Fight Companion’ episode of JRE. The group sat together to watch the bout between Israel Adesanya and Sean Strickland. Before the bout, when Rogan noticed that UFC commentator Laura Sanko, he had great words to say about her.

After seeing Sanko on the screen, Rogan said, “Laura’s great. She’s great. She’s very good at it. She’s nice person… She is super nice too. She got this gig and she’ll shock a lot of people because she’s very good at it. You know, a lot of people.” The others, too, agreed with Rogan’s prediction. Schaub heaped praise on Sanko by saying that she is someone who knows her work too well. Rogan rightly predicted Sanko’s ability to engage the audience, as she stunned many with her brilliant commentary, including Conor McGregor.

The first woman to commentate on a UFC event was Kathy Long, and Sanko was the first woman to commentate in the modern era of UFC under Zuffa. Her commentary debut took place at UFC Fight Night 218. When Sanko replaced the legendary commentator Joe Rogan at UFC 293, she was highly proud of her achievement.

Former UFC two-weight champion Conor McGregor was keeping a close eye on the PPV. The 35-year-old tweeted his surprise at the main event. Additionally, he also took the time to acknowledge Sanko, who was doing a stellar job on her first PPV commentator gig. “Sanko is incredible! “Spins the chin but nothin’ doin’” Love it. Incredibly refreshing addition! Hats off to the whole @ufc crew! Stellar this evening is! Bravo! Only getting better! What a machine!”, wrote McGregor.

When she got the opportunity, Sanko took to her social media handle to express the immense joy and pride that she was experiencing. Days before the event, Sanko wrote that she was extremely happy to work alongside Jon Anik and Daniel Cormier. She later became nostalgic and mentioned how she was a fan of MMA before becoming a competitor and a commentator.
