Julianna Pena will challenge the two-division champion Amanda Nunes for the bantamweight gold in the co-main event of UFC 269. It will be her maiden title shot. However, ‘The Venezuelan Vixen’ believes she should have got a title shot five years back after UFC 200. She accused ‘The Lioness’ of snubbing her after she dethroned Miesha Tate in the title fight.

Pena and Nunes got into a verbal war at the UFC 269 press conference after the challenger accused ‘The Lioness’ of choosing Ronda Rousey instead for her first title defense.

‘The Venezuelan Vixen,’ “We’ve been talking about this fight for a very long time and at UFC 200, when she beat Miesha, she said that she would fight me and she didn’t. She let Ronda Rousey cut the line.”

“I actually won and I beat the girl that rag-dolled you, as a matter of fact. I beat the girl that beat you that night and you said in the press conference that you would fight me and you absolutely did not fight me.”

“You let Ronda Rousey cut the line after she got knocked out. So you picked a can and you’ve been continuing to pick cans and everybody you pick has already lost… You guys act like I am just making this up or I am trying to trash talk. This is facts that have happened in my career. This is things that actually happened. I am not making this up.”

Will Julianna Pena defeat Amanda Nunes?

‘The Lioness’ is unarguably one of the greatest female UFC fighters in the promotion’s history. Interestingly, Nunes is undefeated since 2014. She is currently the number one women’s pound-for-pound fighter.

The Brazilian became the bantamweight champion by defeating ‘Cupcake’ in 2016. Ever since then, she had successfully defended her gold strap against some of the top-tier female fighters in the UFC. However, Julianna Pena is a fresh matchup for the champion.

Although ‘The Venezuelan Vixen’ has a good ground game and can rely on it, it won’t be a walk in the park to take down a strong fighter like Nunes. Given the fact that Nunes has never tapped and will have the upper hand technically, the deck will be stacked against the challenger.

Some may see this fight as an opportunity for the challenger to make the most out of the fact that she has nothing to lose.
