Joe Rogan recently signed a new deal with Spotify that marks the end of their ‘exclusive period’. According to reports, the highly popular JRE (Joe Rogan Experience) podcast will now be available on multiple platforms like Apple Podcasts, YouTube, and Amazon Music. The deal marks the end of the period from 2020 when the JRE was exclusively available on Spotify, and this new move may have also led to some other figures returning to the platform!

In 2022, popular musicians like Neil Young and Joni Mitchell removed their music from Spotify over claims of ‘disinformation’ being allowed on the platform. Their ‘boycott’ had stemmed from Joe Rogan’s presence on the platform as the JRE was being scrutinized for the views shared by the guests on the show.

However, recently, Neil Young announced that he would be returning to Spotify and released a statement that said, “My decision comes as other music services, Apple, Amazon, Qobuz, Tidal, have started serving the same disinformation podcast I had opposed at Spotify. Because I cannot leave all those services like I did Spotify, because my music would have no streaming outlet to music lovers at all, I have returned.”

And apparently, his move has been followed by Joni Mitchel as revealed by the JRE Companion Instagram account which shared, “Two years after Joni Mitchell pulled her music from Spotify to protest the platform’s support for anti-vaccine podcaster Joe Rogan, the icon’s catalog is once again streamable. Her unannounced return to Spotify follows that of Neil Young earlier this month”

The move has drawn a lot of skepticism from the fans and Joe Rogan also shared the update on his Instagram story. While Rogan had responded to Young’s return with a sarcastic ‘welcome, the move by Mitchell has also drawn a flurry of reactions from the online community. Here’s a look at what they had to say!

Joni Mitchell follows Neil Young’s return to Spotify ending Joe Rogan-prompted boycott; Fans react with skepticism

Fans claimed that they were unaware of Joni Mitchell being “gone” from the platform:

“She can leave again I promise no one realized she was gone”

Others pointed out that the reason for her return to the platform may be chalked up to financial motivation due to “greed”:

“When greed outweighs your principles.”

Some also claimed that the boycott may have led to a negative impact on the musician’s “bank account” prompting her to return to Spotify:

“When the bank account can’t virtue signal as hard as you”

Fans also took humorous jabs at the situation by making sarcastic observations about the update:

“Well welllll welllllllll, look who’s back….”

Others wanted to know if Mitchell had thanked the JRE companion page for bringing this situation to light as they proclaimed that “no one would know or care”:

“Has @jonimitchell thanked you for this post? No one would know or care if you hadn’t mentioned it.”

There were also calls from the fans who wanted Spotify to deny Young and Mitchell’s return to the platform as they perceived it would be an apt response:
