‘Nomad’ shared a brief clip from Gastelum’s YouTube video, where the 18-8 fighter accepts the offer to fight the undefeated welterweight star. He said, “As your men in Kazakhstan would say, ‘Triple G, big drama show’. Let’s get it on. I accept, Shavkat, I accept your challenge.” Meanwhile, Shavkat Rakhmonov shared his response in a tweet and said, “Let’s go.”

Rakhmonov seems to be elated after landing the fight with a Mexican-American fighter having challenged him a few months earlier. He mentioned that he wanted to be the first fighter to welcome Gastelum back to the welterweight division. Moreover, the undefeated fighter even urged Dana White and Sean Shelby to make the fight happen. The 28-year-old is currently sixth in the divisional rankings and is undefeated in the UFC with five wins in a row since joining Dana White’s promotion. Furthermore, Gastelum has offered the date for the fight as well.

Gastelum wants to fight in September

The San Jose native posted a video on his YouTube channel recently where he provided the possible timeline for his fight against Rakhmonov. He shed light on Dana White’s statement where the UFC president expressed his wish to hold an event during Mexican Independence Day in September. Gastelum said, “I will give you a date. Dana was talking about doing a huge Mexican Independence Day event in Las Vegas, which happens to be September 16th on the dot.”

Gastelum expressed his wish to fight in September because he wanted to give back to his people. He wants to represent his native country. Furthermore, the UFC veteran wants to register a comeback win in the welterweight division during Independence Day. He added, “Me being an outstanding Mexican-American, I’d gladly represent where my people have come from and where we’re going.”
