“We need to find out who the guy [the real heavyweight champ] is.” Tom Aspinall told Adam Catterall, while talking about his most anticipated fight against Jon Jones. While the hope regarding the bout has created quite some unrest in the fighting realm, Dana White and Co. are yet to officially sign the fighters. But even if nothing is official, White has given us his word that the fight is going to materialize soon enough. And the UFC head honcho has a lot of expectations from the bout. After all, his faith in Jones vs. Aspinall pushed him to make a record-shattering promise.
On March 22, 2025, the UFC CEO appeared on TNT Sports in an interview with Adam Catterall. And one of the topics that the duo talked about was the fight to unite the heavyweight belts. Catterall wanted White to weigh in on the heavyweight division a bit. He wanted the UFC head honcho to rank the fight between Aspinall and Jones. Would that actually be the number one heavyweight bout?
White replied, “Yeah, I mean, me and my crew believe that this is probably the biggest heavyweight fight we’ve done. If we pull this off and actually make the fight, announce it, and start leading up to it that this will be the biggest heavyweight fight in UFC history.” Well, the entire fighting community has been asking for the fight ever since Aspinall became the interim heavyweight champion.

Dana White weighs in on announcing Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall superfight
It’s clear that the interim heavyweight champion has been waiting for the fight for a long time now. While ‘Bones’ initially refused to be interested in a fight against the Britisher, he eventually agreed to the fight. Now, it’s just a matter of time before the bout finally materializes. Talking to TNT Sports, the UFC CEO said, “The fight’s going to happen. It’s just a matter of when now and getting it signed and done. The fight will happen. It’s going to happen. It’s done, but it’s not done. Not done enough to sit right here now and announce it and give you a date. But the fight’s going to happen. There’s no logistics. It’s just a matter of getting it signed.”

Of course, White is a fan of Jones. He has seldom taken a step back from praising the heavyweight champion as the pound-for-pound best. And when it came to Aspinall, White reflected on the Englishman’s aggressive talents. He simply loved the fact that Aspinall wanted to fight the best fighter in the world. During a previous interview with Piers Morgan, the UFC head honcho expressed his desire to watch the battle between Aspinall and Jones. He claimed that if the Britisher could defeat Jones, it’d be life-changing for him.

And as far as the interim heavyweight champion is concerned, he has already expressed that he was becoming quite uneasy. Well, having to wait and defend an interim title seemed to have made Aspinall “bored.” Now, all that he wanted was an opponent to fight against. And he has already given a deadline for White. He wanted to fight as soon as possible.
