“Shamil My Big Brother Is in That One” – Coach Revealed Why Khabib Nurmagomedov Slept in a Regular and Gave Special Suite to Elder Brother Once

The UFC legend, Khabib Nurmagomedov, is widely respected by the UFC community for the fighter he is. On numerous occasions, Nurmagomedov has proved that he strictly follows his religion. As a part of the same, the longest reigning UFC lightweight champion shows huge respect to the elders. The fame he received as the greatest fighter has never blurred him a bit. He makes sure that he follows every single thing his religion taught him from childhood. Even though they are not related by blood, Islam Makhachev shares great similarities with Nurmagomedov. They both hail from Dagestan, follow the same religion and have also trained under Nurmagomedov’s father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.

As a result, the morals and values of both fighters are almost the same. Khabib Nurmagomedov’s non-Muslim coach Javier Mendez is seen in a throwback video talking highly of the fighter’s values.

Nurmagomedov’s coach was having a conversation in the ninety-fifth episode of The Schmozone Podcast with co-hosts Dave Schmulenson and Helen Yee. Mendez had a lot to say about his Russian fighters, especially about Nurmagomedov. He said “These guys are muslim through and through 100 percent. They are the most loyal, most loving, the most respectful fighters I’ve ever met in my whole entire life. … Khabib has been with me for 10 years, not one time has he ever really disrespected me. None of those guys have ever disrespected me. Their culture, the way they are as a person and how they treat their elders, second to none. … Khabib is a superstar.”

Mendez further detailed why he speaks so greatly of Khabib Nurmagomedov. He added, “There’s a giant limousine upfront. The front seat is for the premiere person Khabib and I are going. Who do you think is going to go in the front seat? Every single time without no question, it’s me because I’m the elder. Now when it was his father and I we already knew who was going to be in the front seat. Father.”

The sweet and funny story about ‘The Eagle’

The fans who watch ‘The Eagle’ as a fighter say that he is the greatest of all time. However, it’s hard for an outsider to predict how their favorite fighter will behave outside the octagon. Nurmagomedov’s coach makes it easy for us. He narrated a small story about the respect Nurmagomedov shows to his elders. The coach said how one day when he went to the eagle before sleeping, Nurmagomedov was not seen in the luxurious hotel room given by the hosts.

 Instead, he was all set to sleep in the little rollaway. When Mendez inquired why he was not sleeping in the massive hotel room, he said his elder brother Shamil was sleeping there. By narrating the story, the coach emphasized how much respect the Degastani fighter has for his elders. Towards the end of the narration, the coach said: “Nobody I know does that, nobody but they do because they are who they are, 100 percent devoted to their religion.”
