Joe Rogan is not only the UFC color commentator but also a million-dollar podcaster who has a huge fan following. He speaks about different topics including UFC and other matters related to society and public health. In the latest episode of his podcast, Rogan had Max Lugavere as his guest and they both discussed a dangerous disease afflicting more than 7 million Americans.
The duo spoke about Alzheimer’s disease, why it happens, and how it can be cured. Let’s take a look at what the color commentator and the New York Times best-selling author had to say about this disease.

UFC and MMA is a sport that is extremely dangerous for athletes since it’s physically taxing and involves combat. There have been a lot of cases where the athletes face Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy. The footballers also face it and it can later become dementia in old age. There has also been news of memory loss that fighters like James Te Huna and Tito Ortiz have faced in the immediate aftermath of a fight inside the octagon. So the topic of dementia and Alzheimer’s affects everyone including the athletes of UFC.
Joe Rogan wanted to know how this disease could be cured and the answer given by Lugavere might not be completely satisfactory but the 42-year-old gave a solution nonetheless.
Lugavere said that Nearly 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s. By 2050, this number is projected to rise to nearly 13 million. The only solution according to the author is to detect this disease as early as possible so that the process could be slowed down through proper treatment and medication.
“Where the money I think needs to go is into identifying that golden biomarker that’s associated with the onset of that condition so that clinicians can intervene earlier. Because right now when you catch it is sort of like pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer most of the time is diagnosed when it is too late. This is kind of similar to Alzheimer’s disease. By the time it’s diagnosed, it’s already you are already very late in the game,” Lugavere explained.
According to Lugavere, because of neuron dysfunction, the glucose metabolism in the brain gets diminished by 50% by the time this disease is diagnosed. So there is no way to cure it after its diagnosis since it’s already too late. Lugavere even revealed that the medicine trials for this neurological condition have a 99.6% fail rate and reversing it is also not possible. The only way to deal with it is to slow it down with exercise and a multimodal diet.
Interestingly UFC CEO Dana White is already well aware of the bad effects of Alzheimer’s and how it could be slowed down. He previously uploaded an Instagram video talking about the benefits of fasting and how it could protect from deadly diseases such as dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Dana White explained that his friend Gary Brecka, who is associated with 10X Health Systems, told him that rigorous fasting and consuming water for 72 hours could help maintain a healthy lifestyle. It also apparently reduces the chances of getting cancer by 70%. So after UFC 295, White started his fasting process.
The UFC head honcho also showed a before-and-after picture from the day his fasting process began and he looked much chiseled compared to how he looked before fasting. “I don’t know if you’ve seen this online but it’s called the seven-day water fast. Doctors have done studies on this. And this thing is legit, it gives you over seventy percent of not getting cancer, Alzheimer’s, and other nasty diseases,” White said.
White mentioned that people attempting this fast could add some electrolytes to the drinking water. The process included drinking only water for the first 24 hours and then for the next two days, the UFC boss recommended “Gary Brecka approved” Bone Broth that had 45 g calories and 13 g of protein.

White started taking care of his health because he got the scare of his life after his friend did a check-up and found a diagnosis that the level of triglycerides was skyrocketing in his body which meant that his life expectancy was lesser. Since then he has started eating healthy, fasting, and taking cold plunges. The American businessman recommended this to his fans, but he cautioned that it should be taken with proper medical supervision.
