Joe Rogan is back doing what he loves most. Or at least used to love the most, prior to becoming a podcaster. The UFC commentator, returning to his roots, is gearing up for the release of a new stand-up comedy special titled ‘Burn the Boats’ on Netflix.

This will be the JRE podcast host’s first special in six years and is set for release tonight, August 3. As the name suggests, the special is expected to be a fiery one and expected to touch on some of the more controversial topics.

After all, Rogan never shies away from talking about hot-button topics and has certainly addressed such topics in his previous seven specials. And even as he has become the biggest podcaster in the English-speaking world, he has continued his love affair with stand-up.

So dedicated is Rogan with comedy that he built an entirely new comedy club in Austin, Texas after relocating there a few years ago. Because Rogan has worked for six years on the special, it would be fair to expect that the material would be top-notch. But that is not what the ever-critical JRE subreddit thinks.

One Redditor dreaded Rogan using his signature yells (inspired by one of his comedy heroes, Sam Kinison) during the special, sarcastically remarking that Rogan’s yells will probably be heard around the world: “Do you think the yelling will travel around the world multiple times like the Krakatoa explosion? We get it guy, you like Kinison.”

Another seconded the previous commenter’s low opinion of Rogan’s stand-up skills, predicting they wouldn’t make more than sixteen minutes into the UFC commentator’s upcoming special: “Can’t wait to watch one of the stand ups of all time for about 16 minutes and then turn it off”

Another fan was surprised to see Rogan had decided to release his special on the same night as the UFC Fight Abu Dhabi card: “Crazy he’s going on the same time as UFC.” One fan felt that the special is not likely to be received very well since Netflix has seen a not-insignificant user exodus recently: “Didn’t a bunch of folks cancel their Netflix accounts recently?”

Another fan, who has apparently already seen Rogan’s material (undoubtedly in his Austin comedy club), told the other fans not to hold their breaths as the special was no good: “Seen already. Was trash. Guys not funny.”
