Every single fighter yearns to fight for the championship title. And the same is true for Robert Whittaker. He was previously slated to fight Khamzat Chimaev, but the Chechen fighter’s severe illness forced him to pull out of the fight with just a few days’ notice. But the world of mixed martial arts will witness a fight between the duo in the co-main event for UFC 308. But what’s next for ‘The Reaper’?
Many fight fans have predicted that in case he defeats the ‘Borz’, Whittaker will get a chance to fight for the middleweight championship title. But does that claim hold true? Let’s find out!

Titus Day, Whittaker’s manager, joined ‘Submission Radio’ for a brief interview. As expected, the host asked him about the possibility of ‘The Reaper’ fighting the middleweight champion, Dricus Du Plessis, after winning his bout at UFC 308. Day was sure that a victory over the ‘Chechen Wolf’ would indeed secure Whittaker a shot at the title.
Day said, “It’s difficult to know what the UFC is thinking of what they’re going to do. But I know they like, they like fighters that are active. They like fighters that don’t say no. They don’t like fighters that sit around and wait. So, and I think if Rob goes out and has any sort of win against Khamzat, particularly if it’s impressive, he will be fighting. His next fight will be for the title.”
But before the middleweight division potentially witnesses Whittaker fight for the title, Strickland could face the Middleweight king. Irrespective of the outcome of this matchup, ‘The Reaper’s title shot is confirmed as per his manager. Day continued, “Whether they slip in a Strickland fight in the meantime, I’m not sure. I doubt it. I think they will- There’s some interesting fights playing out in the middleweight division… If Rob beats Khamzat, there’s got to be no dispute. They possibly ask him to fight someone else… It’s undeniable if Rob beats Khamzat that he gets it.”

Whittaker, although he was upset about having to fight Ikram Aliskerov at UFC on ABC 6 instead of Chimaev, has declared that it all played out to his benefit. After all, he has now come up with a plan to defeat his next opponent.
‘The Reaper’s plan against ‘Borz’ at UFC 308
Chimaev’s MMA record highlights his dominance in the MMA realm. His grappling skills and resilience have proved troublesome for his opponents. But Whittaker knows it pretty well. With back-to-back wins, the former MW champion has been beaming with confidence. And the reason is his game plan for UFC 308.

In a conversation with ‘Submission Radio’, Whittaker said, “You know, you got to worry about how hard he’s going to push the wrestling envelope in the first few rounds. And then what I’m going to do after that, after I stop the takedowns, after I get back up or whatever, and just taking the fight to him. You know, everyone can see how this fight’s going to play out. Everyone can make a rough plan on how to approach it. So what you’re thinking is probably what I’m doing.”
Now, the only thing that Whittaker needs to do is execute his plan and get a win. After that, the title fight is his to claim. Do you think Whittaker will fight Strickland for the title? Let us know what you think in the comments down below.
