There is little to deny that weight-cutting is a gruesome technique fighters go through before their fights. Several fighters tend to lose weight and fight in a division that they may not be able to in their normal weight. As such, the center of focus for today will be Sean Strickland as we take a look at what his normal walkaround weight stands at.

The former middleweight prize holder will return to action on June 1st against surging contender Paulo Costa at UFC 302. He successfully made the 185lb limit. But now, let’s take a look at Strickland’s out-of-competition weight.

How much does Sean Strickland weigh normally?

Sean Strickland has never openly talked about his normal weight, ever. However, if we had to make an estimation, it’s important to remember that he’s competed in a total of three separate weight classes. Yes, three separate divisions – welterweight, middleweight, and light heavyweight – although he has won the championship as only a 185er. Hence, ‘Tarzan’s normal weight could be more than 200 pounds.

Moreover, when Sean Strickland fought Nassourdine Imavov in early 2023, he competed in a light heavyweight bout. As such, while the latter weighed in at 194 lbs, the former middleweight champion’s recorded weight was 204 lbs.

But guess what? Strickland would add a few extra pounds after the weigh-ins as he later revealed to have been walking around at 217.2 lbs. Hence, it could only mean that Sean Strickland’s walkaround weight would be around 210-220 pounds.

Also, it means that the former champion usually cuts around 25-35 pounds for his fights, and is often seen struggling to gather himself whenever he steps into the weight machine during weigh-ins. These struggles would once make him state that he might consider moving to another weight class.

‘Tarzan’ once hinted at a permanent move to 205lbs

Before Sean Strickland fought Jared Cannonier in December 2022, his struggles were visible for all to see during the weigh-in. As we’ve mentioned already, this isn’t his first struggling rodeo, but the former champion seemed to have had enough of massive weight cuts, as he declared his wish to make the move to light heavyweight, once and for all.

“I’m gonna go up to 205 now, f***! It never gets easier,” said Sean Strickland. He would get his light heavyweight wish in his next fight, but would soon return to compete as a 185er, which has been his main weight class. However, a 205 move in the future may not be out of the question for ‘Tarzan’.
