UFC 297 is just a few days away, and the fans are excited to witness the event. The official weigh-ins have already begun, and the fighters have worked hard to make the weight for their respective divisions. However, a recent X post by James Lynch highlights the few fighters who have failed to make the weight.

The official weigh-in for the event took place on Friday at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. While the main event card weigh-ins were carried out smoothly, the preliminary events faced a bit of a hitch. Let us find out which fighters failed to make the weight and what penalties they received.

Bantamweight fighter Ramon Taveras missed his weight and was recorded at 139.75 pounds for his debut fight against Serhiy Sidey (135 pounds). Apart from him, flyweight fighter Malcolm Gordon also failed to make the weight for the second time and was recorded at 127.5 for his fight against Jimmy Flick (126 pounds). Gordon has a history of missing weights and failed to make the weight before his recent fight against Jake Headley.

The fight will proceed as scheduled, but Taveras will forfeit 30 percent of his purse, and Gordon will lose 20 percent of his bag. A recent X post by James Lynch justifies that. He shared: “Per UFC officials, Ramon Tavares forfeits 30% of his purse to Serhiy Sidey for missing weight. Malcolm Gordon forfeits 20% of his purse to Jimmy Flick for missing weight.”
